Just Trying to Settle an Argument
Please list the first word that pops into your head when you think about x-mas.
And, I promise this to be my only x-mas post until it's actually upon us. I'd hate to be like the stores who put out x-mas decorations before Halloween is even over...lol. |

Ok, I'll end this here...and get into the real discussion. I think y'all knew where I was going with this.
But yes. I was trying to tell my family the other day that NOBODY looks at Christmas for what it really stands for anymore. I understand that this is not groundbreaking, or anything that nobody has mentioned before. But the older I have gotten, the more it seems as though Christmas has become even more commercial than ever. I said to my family that if you polled a bunch of people regarding what they think of when x-mas is mentioned that "Jesus" or anything religious wouldn't show up until way down the list, and they didn't believe me. Well, I just wanted to get your opinions about this. All I know is that Thanksgiving is the type of holiday that Christmas SHOULD be. There are no gifts, no pressure, no glitz/glamour, no marketing, etc. Just getting together with the people you love to eat like a bunch of pigs and thank all for who is responsible for this gluttony. T-giving is where it's at. X-mas is like the equivalent of Clay Aiken or Brittany Spears to the music world. Fucking sell-out! :D |

BTW...LOVED the comment about Thanksgiving...Agree 100%, as long as it's just limited to my very small immediate family;) |
so when did the tradition of gift giving originally start? i don't feel like looking up the information :P regardless, of course over the years it's going to become commercialized. you start out with small presents, then over say a few centuries you get to where we are today
/shrug i'd rather it be a commercialized holiday than a religious based one and everyone already has a big feast on xmas.. you just have presents on the side. i'mma get my cake and it eat too damnit!! |
i thought this year i would make small unidentifiable animals out of pinecones and pipecleaners.
i might even get some of those little eyes to glue on them. if people dont like them they can shove them up their asses .. sharp side first. Merry xmas. |
i like your style

I like buying gifts for people and I love christmas. I honestly don't care about getting presents.
Christmas is great because a) big relief, no ore christmas shopping b) Everyone is happy. It's not like a good mood, it's a really great mood. Probably because you feel good about gifts you gave people/happy about gifts you recieved and the general setting. The christmas tree all lit up, excited children, the family not fighting and truly loving just being together. There are always fights in my family, thankgiving is not always an exception but christmas is. Of course it's commercialized, what isn't? Maybe I just haven't had a chance to develop a cynicism for christmas yet. |

Oh, and just a quick note to add.
I don't have a problem with Christmas and all the traditions that go along with it. I was just speaking on the topic of over-commercialization. I mean, you personally can take it to any level you wish. I kind of agree with rotting eye in the fact that if it's gonna be such a damn whore of a holiday...than make it strictly commercial. Leave the religious aspect out of it. Not that I care, but if Jesus saw the selfish, shallow way we celebrate his b-day...he would shit a holy brick! |
