Ol' Dirty Bastard - Dead at 35

Founding member of the Wu-Tang Clan, Ol' Dirty Bastard (ODB, Big Baby Jesus, Dirt McGirt) dropped dead in the studio at age 35 late last night. He recently got out of prison for drug possession and parole violation. No word yet on the cause of death.

Well, that sucks... I've been into the Wu since I was 15, so about 9 years now. RIP Ol' Dirty.

he will be missed like the other rappers who have passed away even though most others were murdered (Tupac,Notorious B.I.G,Jam Master J)

I can't say I'll miss him, I lost any respect I might have had for him when he took a camera crew to film him picking up his welfare check in a limosine.I'll bet he overdosed on some drug(probably coke or crack).

Wu-Tang Clan rapper Ol' Dirty Bastard died on Saturday (November 13) in New York, according to his spokesperson.

Sources close to ODB (whose real name was Russell Jones) said he had been complaining of chest pains earlier in the day.

A statement was released Saturday evening by ODB's mother, Cherry Jones. "This evening I received a phone call that is every mother's worst dream," she said. "My son, Russell Jones, passed away. To the public, he was known as Ol' Dirty Bastard. To me, he was known as Rusty, the kindest and most generous soul on earth. I appreciate all the support I received. Russell was more than a rapper — he was a loving father, brother, uncle and most of all, son. With love, Cherry Jones.

... I think this is sad, OK he was not the greatest rapper, I am not really sure he could rap …

This guy was rock and roll (I know he was a hip hop star), but man he lived life hard, funny, drunk, high, in an out of prison, always getting shot, having way to many kids, going on the run and then performing on stage as a wanted man …

RIP ODB

... The moral ... leave crack alone kiddies, its not big and it sure ain't clever!

MichaelMyers 11-14-2004 06:17 PM

To hear the words "old dirty bastard" in serious newscasts tonight was priceless.

bwind22 11-14-2004 06:44 PM

I totally agree with whoever said they lost respect for the system and not ODB over the Welfare check thing on MTV. I think we should be thanking him for exposing the massive holes in the system, even though nothing will come of it.

I can almost gurantee that the autopsy will come back full of cocaine or crack. ODB was an addict. He didn't try to hide it. 80% of his songs are about doing hard drugs and getting fucked up.

In response to Fridaythe13th... No. He is one of those distinct personalities that could not be replaced... For better or worse, he was one of a kind. It'd be like the Rolling Stones replacing Mick Jagger if he croaked. (Obviously Wu-Tang's not as big as the Stones, but I'm just making the point that even if he got replaced, something would be missing.)

Well, he was in jail. He was still in the Wu-Tang Clan, he just couldn't tour or record on their albums with them due to his incarceration.

Sedated_replica 11-21-2004 01:21 PM

I hate rap, but he always made me laugh.
I'm sure he died because of drugs, Oh well.

Dying because of drugs isn't so bad. Its better than getting old and dying of cancer. Least you have fun when your a life...

But uppers.... yuck

RZA was holding him to a contract for years, but he wanted no part of Wu.
