Classic Horror movies box sets

I have notice lately like Zellars Wal-marts and other stores like that they been geting allot of classic horror flims in there. Like two for one type deals, also I have seen a set of 50 count them, 50 classical horror ian set. It was about $45.95 Canadian, I didn't buy since I didn't have the money at the tiome. Have anyone else notice an si milar trend at anyothers stores?

tic 11-09-2004 11:15 AM

in the uk, virgin are selling a number of classic films - cannibal holocaust, zombie flesh eaters 1 & 2, the beyond, toolbox murders, drive in massacre, the slayer for £5, amongst many others. I have also seen hammer box sets around.

The_Return 11-09-2004 11:34 AM

I bought a set of three horror movies at Zellers for $10

Sure, they arent anything amazing, but worth watching: Teenage Zombies, The Blob, and Horror Express

urgeok 11-09-2004 11:46 AM

i'm finding (and buying) all kinds of box sets of old oddball horrors that have anywhere from 4 to 20 movies.
There is some repetition (Carnival of souls, house on haunted hill) which means that they are probably public domain ...
Some of the movies are so bad its unbelievable but i find the odd gem too ..
The old classic b&w films were about 70 minutes so thay have no problem fitting 2 or more on each disc.

BIG MEAT EATER 11-09-2004 11:57 AM

"Carnival Of Souls" classic stuff!

horror_master 11-09-2004 12:04 PM

I yeah know watch mean, some the stuff I got for my brithday set, were pretty bad done, but good in some parts, actually some 0of the older movies can be better the ones now or days.

allmykids 11-09-2004 08:17 PM

Yes there has been alot latley. Got some at walgreens!!

horror_master 11-10-2004 02:03 PM

Cool. I got mine form mainly Zellars and Wal-Mart types stores:)

Horrorfiend 11-10-2004 08:07 PM

I had the Universal Monster set with Frankenstein, Dracula, and The Wolf Man. I sold it though when I ran out of booze money. A decision I deeply regret.

That kinda sucks in some many ways.

I recommend the late 60's/early 70's BLOOD ISLAND movies box set (known as the "BLOOD ISLAND VACATION" box set). You get three movies starring John Ashley and produced by Eddie Romero, one of the great geniuses of Filipino filmmaking. And a fourth film by Al Adamson which has nothing to do with the other three, really, except that it has the word "Blood" in the title, and that supposedly it was made to "resemble" one of Romero's movies.

Eddie: The OTHER Romero.

Personally, I think these films are the cat's pajamas. Yes, I know that's an antiquated expression. But I don't care.

filmmaker2 11-20-2004 02:59 PM

Oh, and for that posted who mentioned "Horror Express"--that film is one of my absolute favorite horror movies of all time! No really! It's so much fun, I can hardly believe it. Even a scratchy old yucky public domain version is okay, not the best, but okay.

In my opinion, It the best of the set. I loved it! Although the Blob was also pretty awesome.....Teenage Zombies was good for a whole other reason, lol....

The part with the eye was pretty messed tho

Some of those aren't worth the £5

The_Return 12-07-2004 12:11 PM

Im buying the 50 movie set that the original poster mentioned tomorrow. Any thoughts on it?

The_Return 12-20-2004 08:53 AM

Ive seen 6 of them, all of which are among my favoites, so I think it looks like a good set. And Urge, do you have a Zellers near you? Thats where I saw it, Music World, too.

horror_master 12-20-2004 09:06 AM

Out of the 50 movies I have about 4 or 5 of them I think. which is still pretty god set since I get a shit load of new movies.

The_Return 12-23-2004 03:33 AM

0.92 cents per movie, that one hell of a deal!

Got it for Xmas. Im usually not a fan of 'classic' horror, but Im digging the silent ones like Hunchback of Notre Dame.

I'd reccomend it to anyone just because its so cheap and it gets you exposed to all kinds of horror.

Tat2 01-04-2005 05:07 PM

Get it

Off the top of my head, I have at least 13 of the movies out of the 50 and have seen several more of them. For the price, it's a no-brainer. Get them. Makes a good addition to your movie collection. When you buy sets like this, you nearly always end up with several of the same movies. I have five copies of Night of the Living Dead. I have bought 10 movie sets just for one movie, especially if it is one I have hunted for. The price for a set of 8-10 movie classics is usually half the cost of one new release and you never know when they'll produce more sets like this.
