Because of "such & such" movie, I am scared to death of...

Just curious of some of the phobias you all may have based upon a particular movie or show.

I, for example, cannot stand clowns (or anything/anyone who is thought to be an innocent figure, e.g. Priests, Ice Cream Truck Drivers, etc.).

But, I can't tell you what show this all stems from -- at least not yet -- because it is so weak! :(

Rager 10-16-2004 10:11 AM

I am and will be always scared of clowns. They freak me out so much!

Sam The Egg 10-16-2004 12:53 PM

finally, an interesting topic that HASN'T been done do death already.

Because of Audition I am scared to death of Japanese women

Because of Dawn of the Dead and Zombie, I am scared to death of zombies (note that it's plural, just one isn't scary)

Fluff the Ho 10-16-2004 12:58 PM

Because of Super-Size Me, I'm scared to death of McDonald's.

meetthecreeper 10-16-2004 02:05 PM

Jaws-saw it in the theater when I was a kid, my mom kept putting her hand over my eyes which scared me even more. I think Quints little speech on the Orca scared me even more. I am probably the only person who lived in San Diego who never went in the ocean. Never have after seeing that movie and I never will.

Sistinas 10-16-2004 03:56 PM

I am scared of clowns like you would not believe, and I think it's because of a movie I watched as a youth(in the early 80's when I was too young to remember the name of the movie).I cannot remember the name of the movie, but it scared me shitless.Another movie from that era that scared me had comething to do with a vampire biting a cactus and I have no clue what it was.

HaHa :)

I hate clowns and dolls. Not cuz of any movie though.
For years I was scared that the troll from Cat's eyes was going to steal my breath at night. That's what happens when you watch scary movies when your 6.

Steve_Hutchison 10-16-2004 06:52 PM

Diseases and hospitals is what scares me. Can't remember of a good movie about those fears. I have been scared of some movies shortly after watching them (Ringu, NOES, Pet Semetary), but the fear went away fast enough.

Yeah. It's quite different when you're young. I remember being scared shit of Fraggle Rocks. Those puppets (and the ones in The Labyrinth) are fucking creepy.

Never watched Dark Crystal. Is it good? Is it a mix of humans and puppets? Is it creepy in the same way Labyrinth is? I need to see this. I'm not a big fan of the muppets tough.

thEsounDofdirT 10-16-2004 08:01 PM

dark crystal is awesome yo... the bird things make an awesome noise.. that i have learned to do... ahhaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhh

orangestar 10-16-2004 08:04 PM

Because of The Ring, I get freaked out when there's static on my TV.

Because of Final Destination, Im afraid of airplanes.

Because of Blair Witch Project, Im afraid of the woods at night.

Steve_Hutchison 10-16-2004 08:05 PM

Hearing there's another movie like Labyrinth out there is like a dream come true.

thEsounDofdirT 10-16-2004 08:15 PM

dark crystal is a lot more dark than labrynth i think.. it's been a while since i've watched it.. but it does have a good mix of puppets to humans...

paranoid around sharp pencils House on Haunted Hill

places that are incredibly dark (almost all scary movies)

i never liked going into places by myself when i'm not familiar with the surroundings but TCM shudder...meat hooks

McDonnyDude666 10-17-2004 12:59 AM

Because of A Nightmare on Elm Street I will never let a burnt child killer with a knive fingered glove, striped sweater and fedora hat come into my dreams.

I dont really have a phobia (dont like heights but its nothing serious) but I would be scared in a situation such as going through the woods because of Blair Witch Project or I would be scared to go into a unknown place like a old house because of any general slasher.

Codeine Coma 10-17-2004 07:05 AM

After watching Poltergeist as a young child... I feared ghosts more than I ever thought possible. And to this day I still hate static on TV sets.

Haunted 10-17-2004 07:32 AM

Static on the tv seems to be a running theme. I have to agree that it kinda freaks me out as well.

After The Shining (movie/Nicolson), twins freak me out.

Zombies have always freaked me out.

Demonic a la the Exorcist scare the shit out of me.

It doesn't alter my lifestyle except that I won't use ouja boards or live near cemetaries.

Some things scare me, but if I used to wish I lived next to a cemetary. Beating the shit out of a zombie sounds like fun time to me!

coffinbaby 10-17-2004 11:40 AM

i was at a time afraid of chains cause of Hellraiser and then Hockey Masks due to Friday the 13th part 3, and now i would say im afraid of getting stuck in bush mazes like the one in The Shining

Haphazard 10-17-2004 01:48 PM

Also, someone could offer me a million dollars to walk down the corridor of a dark asylum, and I would NOT do that shit!

Man, that's a mindfuck!

Dark Crystal is 100% puppets!!

... As for movies that caused fears its got to be Jaws ... that movie made the whole world scared of the sea ... Plus Sharks are pretty much natures closest thing to a monster!

Damn... Is it good anyway? Is it as "creepy" as labyrinth?

I_Still_Know! 10-17-2004 04:02 PM

Because of Jaws (and various other shark movies) when swimming at the beach I will not go out into the ocean further than chest deep.

Also after The Blair Witch Project bundles of sticks and piles of rocks, in any shape or form freak me out - not to mention old abandoned houses.
*Any combination of the above and I would shit my pants

Arioch 10-17-2004 09:41 PM

Everyone but me seems afraid of clowns:confused: ....

Fluff the Ho 10-17-2004 09:43 PM

^^ if ur saying ur not affeared of clowns. i would hafto agree. ive met many a friendly clown in my lifetime

of course theres scary ones like it. but u can say the same thing abou scary bears, doctors, teachers etc etc.

mayoisthedevil 10-18-2004 12:26 AM

yeah some clowns are nice. some are also too damn happy, the creepy, forced kinda happy...

Ninja Moo 10-18-2004 12:43 PM

Because of Children of the Corn I am absolutly terri-fucking-fied of corn fields. Doesn't help I live in PA and every way you look, oh yes there is another cornfield!

I think I'm afraid of scarecrows too, and that's from Jeeper's Creepers.

I can't go in the Ocean thanks to Jaws.

I'm afraid of woods at night thanks to F13....

:p

No! In fact...that movie made me less afraid of clowns. I just recently saw it.

The show that actually cause my fear of clowns was a friggin' episode of...are you ready for this????

Little House on the friggin' Prairie!!!!

I was little and my ma watched that show all the time, and in one episode...I just remember a guy in some kind of jester mask was like terrorizing the usually tranquill prairie...lol. There was some kind of molestation scene or something...I dunno. It was just really disturbing to me at that age...lol!

I still have yet to watch Stephen King's "It," because I know that will freak me the hell out!

Vodstok 10-18-2004 01:31 PM

yeah, it is bad. i am not afraid of clowns, and that scared the piss outta me. "We all float down here..."

Believe it or not, the director's cut of the Exorcist made me afraid to look at the friggin hood over my stover for a while, due to an added flicker of the death face on one in a particular scene...
http://scaredyet.net/pics/exorcist/exorcist13.jpg

And one night, after watching the Ring, i got up to take a piss, and there was a dark towel hanging from a rack on the door, that was over my wife's light colored robe. for a split second, Samara was standing in my bathroom door way. I have never before or since experienced a level of panic quite that intense.....

I've actually stood by storm drains and longed for Pennywise to come out and scare me on that level.....just to feel that level of fear.....but alas....i always went home dissapointed....
