You're right. With recent events such as Powells and other republican delegates switching over being "Obamicans," the democratic party and campaign isn't too pressed about McCain's sudden dirty tactics. Now of course it's only natural for campaigns to get nasty towards the end, but I think I've seen the most questioning of character out of the man who built is campaign on supposed "patriotism." I mean I respect McCain for joining the armed forces. THough it wasn't like he was the brightest crayon in the box because he graduated from the Naval Academy in the bottom 5 of the class. Aside from that, he was a pow in Vietnam--not a war hero as John Kerry was. Kerry actually has the purple hearts to prove it; although he didn't really " woo" me away from other democratic presidential hopefuls in 2004.
Anyway, I was watching lots of CSPAN, MSNBC, and a lot of other political tv sources and it appears as if the McCain campaign prefers to ignore the pledge support from Powell, in hopes to make him seem fearless; a representative from his campaign has even stressed Powell's support is just motivation for the Obama campaign; they argue that he is not going to be a substantial factor, for he is not campaigning alongside Obama for traditional red states--he simply endorses him. Whether this is a sly way of the republicans to cover up from what I really think they feel--with it only being 2 weeks until the election expect things to get even nastier guys...we've already witnessed the propoganda of Obama being accused as a terrorist/terrorist ally, and a Muslim. Who knows what else, McCain will go after.
