"Double Tap" - Excellent Hong Kong action thriller with a top notch turn by the late Leslie Cheung and some bloody and well crafted shoot outs.
"Rich and Famous" - Chow Yun Fat, Andy Lau. Far more a drama than a Heroic Bloodshed film and rather dull in parts, works best if seen as the first part of it's VASTLY superior sequel. Talking of which...... "Tragic Hero" - superb sequel to "Rich and Famous" that ups the action and violence and features a classic Heroic Bloodshed finale that oozes Hong Kong coolness. "The Sons of Katie Elder" - Top John Wayne flick with Dean Martin. "The Shootist" - Wonderful and emotionally powerful ending to Wayne's career that's also a warm tribute. "The Alamo" - Overblown and over long but it's still a lot better than many people say. Could have done with a longer action finale but all in all John Wayne does okay both in front and behind the camera with a good cast in support. "True Grit" - More Wayne goodness with a top support cast, but not as great as it's reputation. "El Dorado" - Classic semi-remake of "Rio Bravo" that ups the comedy. "Rio Lobo" - Vastly underrated Wayne flick that's bags of fun. "The Comancheros" - Some good humour but lacks action. Wayne is always watchable though. "The Crazies" - Excellent presentation of an excellent george Romero film that deserves far more respect! "Two Mules for Sister Sara" - Pretty damn good, if laid back, Eastwood Western with a good dose of comedy and a very violent finale. "Death Hunt" - Wonderful (and violent) semi truthful re-telling of the Canadian 'Mad Trapper' that mixes fact, legend and fiction brilliantly. Bronson and Lee Marvin in top form! "Under Siege" - Uncut version of this fun action fest. Shame Stevie Seagul is the star though! Triple pack of "The Longest Day"/"Patton"/"Tora! Tora! Tora!" "The Blue Max" - Long but fast moving WWI film with some great dogfights, a good cast and some epic visuals. "Battle of Britain" - Amazing (if often very, very underused) cast and some excellent dog fight set-ups. Not bad at all. "Resident Evil" - Pretty lacklustre and far too bloodless, but works well with it's superior sequel. Talking of which......... "Resident Evil: Apocalypse" - far more action, far more zombie funstuffs (though still a lack of gore) and all in all worthy popcorn fun that actually feels far more like the game than part 1 did. "Dead Birds" - Civil War haunted house/horror flick. Looks cool and different. "Creep" - Brit horror set in the little used but alwats effective London Underground. Looking forward to checking it out. "South Park", seasons 1 - 4 "The Hillside Strangler" (unrated) - It's meant to be nasty and exploitative. So it better had be!! LOL! "Rocky 1 - 3" CAT III goodness thanks to the sale at DDDHouse, all these for £7 inc postage from Hong Kong....... "Run and kill" - Simon Yam classic. "Naked Poison" "Brother of Darkness" "Daughter of Darkness" - Anthony 'Mr Sleazy' Wong. |
