DEUCE BIGALOW: MALE GIGILO(1999). Lots of dead spots in here and gags that don't work, but enough quirky characters and downright funny moments that make it worth checking out. ***

Anyone seen True Love Ways?
A b/w German film. It was so much fun to watch. Must have been fun to act in too. A couple split up because the girl has a dream and falls in love with a figure from her dream so she realises she never loved her bf. Her ex then plans to have her 'attacked' by an actor so that he can heroically rescue her and so win back her affection. But the 'actor' is really a kidnapper and maker of rape and snuff movies... |

Well, I can't contribute to the conversation about Rob Zombie, I've never been a fan of his. |
The Dark Stranger (2015)
http://s15.postimg.org/rh4r7xk6j/TDS.jpg >>: C Under the Shadow (2016) http://s11.postimg.org/p17cfngub/under_the_shadow.jpg After her husband gets transferred to another heavy war-torn area, a woman & her daughter struggles to cope with the terrors of 1980s post-revolution, war torn Tehran but things get even worse when a mysterious supernatural entity begins to haunt in their apartment. Definitely worth a watch for the fans of other recent horror flicks that's dealt with single parenting issues with twisted & intriguing stories i.e. The Babadook and Goodnight Mommy. UTS starts mostly like a contemporary middle-eastern/Iranian drama flick focusing a family in distress or social issues, takes its time to set the premise for the characters and then slowly descents into the horror parts with a few but decently done jump scares & eerie set pieces. Loved it for its skillful direction & great all around performance from the central cast. Yeah...it still could have been a lot more creepier but my only disappointment was actually the ending that felt kinda forced, incomplete or to some extent "uneventful"; at least horror fans may going to miss a little punch at the end. >>: B+ Downhill (2016) http://s12.postimg.org/aic3jrhn1/downhill_poster.jpg >>: C- Man Vs. (2015) http://s22.postimg.org/von9q5e0x/man_vs.jpg This was not bad. Fairly entertaining! My advice: the less you know about the movie, the more you're going to enjoy it. Avoid the trailer and even the imdb page for it, cause that will ruin the fun/twist for you. The final or additional twist at the end was unnecessary though, seen another indie-horror with kinda similar ending before. >>: B |
!!!HALLOWEEN HORROR MONTH!!! https://s22.postimg.org/wiob0bve5/Thirst.jpgThirst (2009) I.M.D.B. Kang-ho Song's performance was too understated to explore the premise and spiritual torture of a priest becoming a vampire, and there was some strange ghostly happenings towards the middle that didn't fit the film and simply went unexplained. This movie couldn't find it's feet. Very well made, however, with plenty of gruesomeness. 7/10 https://s21.postimg.org/hj4s1n0ib/Tucker.jpg Tucker & Dale vs Evil (2010) I.M.D.B. Tucker and Dale are on vacation at their dilapidated mountain cabin when they are attacked by a group of preppy college kids. Great premise, and while the joke could easily have become stale, excellent performances from Tyler Labine and Alan Tudyk keep the movie rolling and the laughs coming. Plenty of funny gruesomeness in this one. Highly enjoyable. 8/10 https://s14.postimg.org/jszslrswd/Don_t_Breath.jpg Don't Breath (2016) I.M.D.B. Hoping to walk away with a massive cash, a trio of thieves break into the house of a sick man who isn't as helpless as he seems. A fairly enjoyable little movie. The performances were a bit underwhelming. Certainly wasn't great but a good late night movie with some tension and intrigue. 7/10 https://s18.postimg.org/vt89w66fp/Independence_Day.jpg Independence Day: Resurgence (2016) I.M.D.B. Two decades after the first Independence Day invasion, Earth is faced with a new extra-Solar threat. But will mankind's new space defenses be enough? Not as stupid as I was expecting! In fact the movie managed to switch off my brain and keep me entertained throughout most of it. But the CGI was off. I felt no tension, no sense of destruction, so real sense of anything because it all looked too fake. Not a good movie, but not so terrible that I was groaning throughout. 6/10 https://s14.postimg.org/w047prm9p/Jack_Goes_Home.jpg Jack Goes Home (2016) I.M.D.B. After his father is killed in a car crash, Jack travels home to Colorado to help nurse his mother (who was injured in the crash) back to health. I did not enjoy this movie. It didn't seem to know what it wanted to be, and therefore felt like a mess. Some bad dialogue delivered pretty badly by everyone certainly didn't help. It was, however, competently shot. 5.5/10 https://s16.postimg.org/q3m0omz1d/Train_to_Busan.jpg Train to Busan (2016) I.M.D.B. While a zombie-virus breaks out in South Korea, a couple of passengers struggle to survive on the train from Seoul to Busan. A great zombie movie! Zombies were a real threat, the characters were explored enough to care about them and the violence was visceral without being tacky. I really enjoyed this one. Highly recommended! 9/10 |
