looooooooooooooooooooooooooooooove JTHM.................

...

Read Preacher Vol. 3 and am working on Vol. 4. I think I'll have to order the remaining volumes from Amazon, like, now...

Edit: Finished Vol. 4 today. Ordered Vols 5 - 7 from Amazon last night.

hacelikewhoa 09-09-2009 08:16 PM

A few issues of The X-files and some Tales from the Crypt. Just ordered Freddy vs. Jason vs. Ash and a nightmare on elm street. I actually just started reading comics... Never found anything I liked until recently. I can't stand super heroes but I found a whole other world of comics/graphic novels.

cheebacheeba 09-09-2009 08:37 PM

Hace, You should check out
Irredeemable, invincible, kick-ass, Absolution, Sleeper (all those have superhero stuff, but...not at all like what you'd expect)
Sweet tooth
Criminal
Incognito
The Last Resort
...and of course, the walking dead.

You will need to get back issues or tpbs (trade paperbacks, they're like collections of story arcs or complete series sometimes) to catch up on a few of those, but they're well worth it if you want to stray from the superhero bit. Another thing one could do, if they were so inclined to catch up on back issues or "preview" titles for purchase would be to get an application called DC++, go into some comics hubs, and download them.

Freddy vs Jason vs Ash - The current series is pretty good, the last series was garbage.

Plenty of good stuff doesn't revolve around the supers, I read both, but always like to pick up a good bit of unusual.

Finished up V for Vendetta with a series of essays by Alan Moore at the end discussing how the character came to be.

Starting Warren Ellis' Transmetropolitan, I was told it would be a little more gritty than the other Ellis' works I've read. Spider is def. a little more gruff than, say, Mr. Snow of the Planetary comics, but I'm far from disappointed so far.

zombie ash 09-10-2009 10:51 AM

HUGE guilty pleasure - I grab a copy once in awhile myself. The classic stuff is way better, but the recent ones still give me a good chuckle. Nice choice :D

Elvis_Christ 09-10-2009 05:50 PM

Getting thru the first few Gore Shriek issues.

Quite. The movie really doesn't do the comic justice. The characterization was amazing. Literally every character had a back story that was just as in depth as the main characters. Eve was a much stronger person than portrayed in the movie as well. All the writing was great but that's to be expected with Alan Moore. Until recently I was an art snob when it came to comics but my introduction to Warren Ellis I have been a lot more focused on the writing aspect. I've got a bunch more of Moore's stuff on the way.

I'm rereading Sam Kieth's Ojo, waiting for the last issue of Kick-Ass to come out in November.

SamCostello 11-01-2009 04:39 PM

I'm just starting You Will Die by Your Own Evil Creation, the second anthology of wacked-out Fletcher Hanks comics from the '40s. Can't wait to dig in. If this is half as weird/good as I Shall Destroy All The Civilized Planets, it'll be terrific.

Sam

SamCostello 11-15-2009 10:01 AM

Noir, an anthology of short horror comics from Dark Horse. Almost every story in here is at least solid, but the new Stray Bullets story and a nice twist on Batman’s origin by Brian Azzarello are standouts. If you like crime comics, definitely check this one out.

Weapon X 11-20-2009 09:58 PM

Destination Moon.

SamCostello 11-22-2009 09:25 AM

20th Century Boys Vol. 5, by Naoki Urasawa - I think this series is 20 volumes or so. It's hard to imagine where it could be going (which is exciting) since, just as this volume built to what looked like a major climax, it cut away 15 years into the future. Weird, but intriguing.

My current comic reco.

Doc Faustus 11-29-2009 06:46 AM

My current comment rec: I Shall Destroy All the Civilized Planets: The Fantastic Comics of Fletcher Hanks. Weird, antisocial, heavy, cynical masterpieces of thirties and forties comics by a guy who was clearly off his rocker. Very cool stuff.

Wicked Lady 12-02-2009 04:43 PM

I just finished the short solo comic series Mystique had.

I'm in the middle of all the new Deadpoool ongoing series'

Cable.. The new X Force.. Black Widow.. Doctor Strange.. Fall Out Toy Works.. Wow... I need a life.. lol

cheebacheeba 12-02-2009 04:47 PM

I think the current run of Cable is one of Marvels best.
The new deadpool team-up etc starting with 900 I don't really like but the ongoing is ok...still preferred the last ongoing though...

Have you been reading the X force? They intertwine nicely for the Messiah War.

Honestly, I didn't like the on-going Deadpool has that's being written by Daniel Way at first but I've really been loving it recently. Poor Bob lol.

His old on-going from the 90's was great depending on who was writing it. It pained me to read through some of the crap Priest put out Xp

cheebacheeba 12-02-2009 07:08 PM

Yeah I remember I read all of that 90's ongoing deadpool, actually have a copy of #1 as part of my collection...started off real good, then like not at the very end but towards the end it REALLY fell down some, almost a chore reading through those parts.

Yep, I read x-force (I download so I pretty much read....everything) and agreed it tied in well with cable. Though out of the two Cable is by far the best series IMO, I just wish they'd get back whoever was doing the art at the beginning...storyline's still cool, but it WAS one of the best looking comics out for a while there too.

The one Marvel thing I avoid is usually all the space stuff, oh and agents of atlas which just looks stupid and I'm sure is just a passing phase...I'm waiting for guardians of the galaxy to move in from the...?war of kings? before I start reading again, I really don't need another crossover.

Speaking of comics...guess it's about time to hit up dc++ and see what's out for the week.

I tend to just avoid Marvel in general. Haha. Other than Iron Man and Thor on occasion, I liked Hulk until the Red Hulk, World War Hulk, Doggystyle Hulk, etc. And I like Deadpool here and there, I really like Deadpool but his stories tend to bore me.

Just read Alan Moore's "For The Man Who Has Everything" I think that might be the best thing Jason Todd did as Robin, besides dying. I like Jason as the Red Hood and Dick's nemesis though.

Weapon X 12-03-2009 12:42 AM

I thought some of his best work was as a constant annoyance in x-force...his ongoing now, up and down. But yeah I just read it 'cos it's there.
So what, did thanksgiving like delay comics or something? there was sweet fuck-all to download today.

I don't know why, but yeah, Thursday is new comic day this week. I read the issues of his new series where he fought Hawk(Bulls)eye. That was pretty cool but the rest of that series was kind of meh.

"Blackest Night: Flash #1"

Now, I'm biased in the fact that I love Barry Allen and Captain Cold, but I FUCKING LOVE BARRY ALLEN AND CAPTAIN COLD!

Doc Faustus 12-03-2009 08:16 PM

I used to hate Captain Cold, but once you read Geoff Johns' Flash stuff, he's hard not to like. And so different from Mister Freeze it isn't even funny.
