Everyone is complaining about the new World Cup ball by adidas.

What is making it so difficult to control???

Zero 06-17-2010 06:28 AM

the general complaint is that it is too light (also the new patching seems to make it move unpredictably - especially at the higher altitudes of some of the venues)

of course since both strikers and goalkeepers have complained one wonders if there is any real problem here. also in the second week the strikers at least seem to have largely found the measure of the ball and have made some blistering strikes on goal. after all, shots blasted away from forty yards away have generally sailed up into the stands and no one blamed the ball!

Help me fuzzy one

The chimp must be a cool customer. Whats he smoking? I would like to ask you the following:

Could you suggest a double bill of films that will completely unnerve (freakout)
a couple of friends. What I would like to do is get an older one (prior to 1970) and one thats current.

Oh Fuzzy One please help this confused little devil.

When we close our eyes, in light we can still see shadows and slight movement due to how fine our eyelids are - our eyes perceive the light and any interruptions beyond them slightly.
When we close our eyes in darkness, we have less of this effect as there is less light to see on the "other side". More purely darkness...
Though sometimes in both darkness and light, we see colours too, "washes" of colour, usually (at least in my case) ever changing, ever moving...whether or not these are in the mind or an effect of the eye itself is perhaps something to consider for another question - it is not mine.
For both of these times, light and dark we can also see residual images, particularly when bright light has been involved prior to lights being off and/or eyes being closed.

So what if you are blind...let's go to the extreme of that condition - lets say you have no eyes whatsoever, you were either born without them or they were destroyed/removed in an accident.
Your eyelids are likely permanently closed or there's skin grafted/grown over where they should be, though make no mistake the organs themselves do not exist for you.
What do you "see"?
Black? Nothing at all? Something less than black?
What is your perception so to speak?
I find it hard to believe it would just be the same minus the colours/residual images, even the darkness, all those layers of black, are they not visual in some way? Though I cannot imagine any less, or what would be there in its place?

assuming our subject was born without eyes but with all the other neurological appatus for vision then they would 'see' colors and washes etc (though they would have difficult articulating these as colors since the connection between these sensations and language would be tenuous). the neurology will find ways to activate itself - same reason people see and hear in sensory deprivation chambers. our born without eyes subject would not have the kind of visual memory to create images but the neurons would still fire to create activity. whether this is 'seeing' is another question but the neurophysology would work (same reason people who have lost a limb feel it itch).

a subject born without eyes OR the neurological structures for vision would have no vision or sense of colors or anything else.

as an odd aside - my 'washes of mental color' are purple - what color are yours? I've often wondered if the colors we see in the dark are connected to other personality dynamics though i've not pursued the question.

zero out

hmm - if by unnerve you mean make them feel creepy - then i'd suggest:

Carnival of Souls (1962) or Picnic at Hanging Rock (75)
and more recent - paranormal activity (2009)

if you mean make feel really uncomfortable because of graphic violence etc. then:

Peeping Tom (1960) and
Irreversible (2002)

Would there be advantages to moving my blog to Wordpress and redesigning it?
