Hmm...Well...I'm not sure that hitting the spider would do much good, can I turn the staff and STAB the spider with it?...If so, I would stab the spider in its brain or its soft underbelly (depending on which part I can get to the fastest), until it was dead, then I would drag its carcass over to the hole and climb its carapace to get out.

If I find that I can't stab it...I guess I would just have to try to bludgeon it...As a gnome, I live underground, so I should be able to find some way out of a hole.

BTW, as a gnome with a staff, shouldn't I be able to control spiders and other lower life-forms that live underground?

This has left me wondering if this staff can perform any spells, besides Fatal...Staffs generally don't make very good bludgeons...I feel that I should reserve my special attack for a boss or multiple enemies, instead of using it when we're just getting started.

On a side note...I think we could turn Chrono into a hardcore gamer...She's beginning to feel it...:D

Don't overthink. Logic and game mechanics are often strange bedfellows. Staves are made of wood and they are hard. Therefore, they are suitable bludgeons, better than say, a pillow or some cheese.

Take on the dog and try to smash its brains in before it chews your neck out? Or find a means of escape and try to elude the savage creature?
Choose.

I'm gonna have to smash its brains in.

Think I'll stay on the roof and look for another entry inside... not prepared to run away just yet, but I don't fancy tackling a zombie warrior head on either if I can find a way round it.

Oh, absolutely. I'm actually a wannabe-gamer. Always WANTED to play D&D, but didn't know anyone else who did and wasn't sure how to get started... Want to play WOW, but can't afford the price of the software and monthly fee right now (plus I don't have a good enough computer to run it on). Looking into some LARPing around the area, though (NERO is one I'm looking at especially, after watching Monster Camp).

What MMORPG's do you and Dustin do? I believe there's a free one that Posher told me about once?

That is very true, and I think it's because I'm so bad at 'chance' that I try to avoid it, by...overthinking, trying to predetermine every outcome...I'm also very uncomfortable with the staff, I've never used one so I'm just trying to get a feel for it, see what it can do, I know I'll eventually get used to it...I've always played very physical characters, and even my Segnale, who is supposed to be a healer with curse abilities (a whip, no staff), I statted her for a DD build(DD='damage dealer', for anyone who may not be familiar) ...I really appreciate the tips in this unfamiliar territory.

This is my lvl 102 Segnale (I love her) :
http://i699.photobucket.com/albums/v...gnaleRayne.jpg

This is her whip:
http://i699.photobucket.com/albums/v.../RayneWhip.jpg

I hate screen shots, I can never catch them at the perfect moment, and also it's not as cool when nothing's moving...Wish I could show you guys video...When she lays down a curse field, she jumps up into the air, spins, and then lets it go:
http://i699.photobucket.com/albums/v...Cursefield.jpg

Her cursefield turns the ground black/purple (and green when I add poison to it), and everything inside the black/purple circle dies (lower level monsters just explode) :D
http://i699.photobucket.com/albums/v...RayneCurse.jpg

Those guys in the back that are still alive, were outside of the circle.

It just started raining ingame...I love the rain...I'm gonna play for a little while.

What MMORPG's do you and Dustin do? I believe there's a free one that Posher told me about once?

We've played 2moons for 3 years, that's where my Segnale is at...You would LOVE it, but they just put in new patches to add a character (Aloken) and now the game requires a Pentium 4, equivalent or higher...I'm using a Pentium 3 (which was always good enough BEFORE...GRRR) so I'm getting pretty bad lag (MS at 1500! insane)...I'll have to install the game in one of these newer computers, which sucks because I'm used to mine...Anyway...We have played probably around 50 MMORPGs in the last 3 years, but quit most within a few days to a month...All were f2p (free to play)...We're cheapskates.

2moons will always be our favorite...I've still got Jade Dynasty loaded in my computer, as well as Requiem Bloodymare (they recently changed the name to Requiem Momento Mori), and Runes Of Magic...Usually I end up quitting a game because of issues with controls (I can't WASD :o)...Rohan's map system sucked, Magicworld's graphics were crap (so was weapon enhancement), but it was a decent game until lvl 60 or so...I guess Jade Dynasty would be the best after 2Moons, but there's a pretty large gap between them...Jade Dynasty's crafting requirements, and non-existant weapon and armor drops (because of the crafting requirements) are totally sucky, other than that, good game...Shaiya is okay, but I got bored after level 40 (which is strange, because I was entering a new map), the monsters were all just too similar, that's all I can think of for the lack of interest.

There are SO many to try...Some are good, some are bad, it really depends on personal preferences.

Google 'Free MMORPG'...Check out each one to see what the game is like before you invest too much time and effort into installing it...See what Characters, Classes and Abilities are offered, and check out the combat control and general movement configurations...We got Brad hooked on 2Moons, but I don't think his system at his house can handle it now...If you wanna check out a free MMORPG, let me know what you're thinking about trying, and I'll give you all the info I can about it...If it's not too bad, I most likely already have a character and can meet you there ;)

Dustin and I are still searching for an MMORPG that's at least AS good as 2Moons...No luck yet, so we don't play very much anymore (at my level, there isn't much left for me to do at 2Moons...I played the higher maps on an accelerated server, so I was pretty much done at 2Moons about a year ago)...Our friends at 2Moons have invited us to many other MMORPGs, which is how we ended up at Jade Dynasty, but we just didn't stick around...Our gamer friends are also on the lookout for a better game.

OH...And for the record...WOW sucks...You aren't missing a thing...I hated the controls AND the crafting...The people who like WOW, absolutely love it, but if you play 2Moons first, WOW just isn't all that great...I think the WOW players just haven't really played much else...OH, we hated Everquest also, and I have friends that are hooked on that game like CRACK...They never played 2Moons either ;)

I'll make you a deal...If you manage to find a GOOD MMORPG, Dustin and I will get new headsets (the baby lost/destroyed both of ours), you get a headset, too, and we'll hook you up with Ventrillo...Then we'll all play...You'll be a true gamer geek :D

Just wanted to add...Shane, Seri and their friends are also LARPers :D...They tried to get Alex to join, but he's just not into it, and if you're going to do it right, you REALLY gotta be 'into it'.

There's nothing better than a guy and a girl sitting at opposite ends of the room with headsets on, and the guy says "HEY, it's raining body parts on me over here" and the girl says "Oops, sorry about that...You might wanna scoot over just a bit"...Makes a girl happy :D

And...Dustin got me a GeForce graphics card for my birthday one year...WOOT!...That's true love right there...Although, it looks like I may need a bigger card, now...*Nudges Dustin*

OH, it's also good for family bonding...This was from one of our favorite moments:

Playing Left 4 Dead -which I quit after a month, I'm just not into FPSs (first person shooters)...But, I LOVED the zombies!...Which was why I played in the first place:

Dustin: "Alex, If you don't stop standing in front of me, I'm not gonna stop shooting you in the head."

Alex: *oblivious*..."OOOO, I just found Molatov Coctails!"

3 seconds later:

Me: "Why are we all on fire?"

Alex laughs.

And Alex glitched me through the floor of an elevator by throwing multiple bombs at me, so I was at the bottom of the elevator shaft while they were 2 floors above me.

Ahh...Fun times :)

I think you'd have a more fun experience table top gaming than MMORPG, just because there's more characterization and less casual clicking on things until they blow up. I think you'd enjoy White Wolf's World of Darkness games, because there's nearly limitless things you can do with character building and we're not just talking numbers and power sets. All you need to do is go to your local game store and see if they have a board up. If they have said cork board, put up a note that says "buxom hottie seeks gaming group." I'm certain you will find plenty of games.

But...BUT...MMORPGs are fun, too :(

Honestly...If it weren't for the baby...We would be playing the real RPGs, too...Dustin doesn't really care for card, dice, or text-based RPGs, though (maybe this game that V has created might help to change his mind a little about text-based RPGs)...Seri plays text-based RPGs...BTW, Did you know that there's a Dungeons and Dragons MMORPG now?

If it were free and I didn't have all these books to write and such, I'd be kind of tempted. I like 4th edtion more than I like 3rd edition, even though it's kind of big and videogamish. I have a character 4th edition will finally allow me to play thanks to the Warlord class' inspire and tactics abilities. He's kind of a thuggish halfling Michael Caine who looks like he's never doing anything but actually changes the outcome of things all the time.

Oh, but it IS free ;)...Dustin said the controls are pretty crappy though...I didn't even try it, because if the controls are bad for HIM (he can WASD), they're probably impossible for me.
http://www.ddo.com/playnow/

Also...White Wolf's World Of Darkness is being developed right now...as an MMORPG...They've been working on it for quite some time...It was supposed to come out this year, but now some say 2010 or 2011...I don't know yet if that one will be f2p, or when it will be ready...They seem to be having quite a few problems with it for some reason...At any rate, it might be worth checking out when (if) they finally get it finished.

When things become totally dark around him, he lights a match in the process of taking the next step. As if in response, a low growl greets him from near, somewhere just below him. He stops and looks down.

A huge pair of fangs snarl back at him, which belong to some sort of a zombified Lycan!

Demon Seed tries to take a step back, but doesnt find the last one and stumbles. Somehow regaining his balance, Demon Seed gulps.

Take on the creature with your mace, or turn around and try your best to get out of the well? You do have a Special Ability - Brawl - which might cause plenty of damage to the creature, but you will lose 2 Strength points everytime you use it. Choose.

V is still doing the ones who are making their first choices...Like Seri and Alex who waited until today to answer.

So far we've had:

1) 'Qualification Round' - Choose number, answer question
2) Choose option - Direction, box, fight or flight, etcetera
3) Second option based on situation created from previous choice

V is still laying out storyline for the #2s who didn't answer as quickly as others.

You are waiting for storyline for #3...As am I, and just about everyone else :)

Did that make any sense? :D

Just wanted to add...Shane, Seri and their friends are also LARPers :D...They tried to get Alex to join, but he's just not into it, and if you're going to do it right, you REALLY gotta be 'into it'.

WOW. Damn. Thanks, Rayne.

Too bad about 2 Moons - my PC is oooooooooooooold and my laptop is technically "work's," so I'm a little limited... As soon as I have funds to get a new (or refurbished laptop), I'll keep the processor in mind - I DEFINITELY want to get into gaming.

I'll look around, too. I know who to ask once I've found something. Awesome.

There's a comic shop within walking distance that CONSTANTLY has guys gaming in it... But they're not the friendly-type geeks. They're the hostile holier-than-though geeks... I'll just make sure to wear something REALLY revealing next time I go in.

Good place to start, though. I'll see if I can actually engage them in conversation... And then I don't have to buy a new computer!!

Shit guys, been a crazy week, sorry I haven't participated lately.

Edit: I take the path! There is nothing that lies in the darkness that I cannot handle!

I just went into my room to get my cell phone because I was starting to get worried about V, and I wanted to check on him...As soon as I picked it up, I saw that there was a text from V, ESP I guess :p

He asked me to share this message with you guys:

"DSL cables broken since yesterday afternoon. Still not fixed. Maybe tomorrow, if not then Monday. Apologies to all."

That came in at 1:17pm EST (which was 7 hours ago...I don't check my cell phone very often :o)

Soooo...I guess that means it'll be a while before we find out our fates.

Poor Roshiq, stuck with his ankle in a metal trap...And Ferret, suffocating in a narrow vent...As much as it must suck to be stuck (and in Roshiq's case, in pain), many of the rest of us are in danger of being eaten

@Chrono: Dustin and I just got beta keys to test a new game...So far, the controls are good, and it seems somewhat interesting...There are more characters to choose from than in most games, and all characters have male/female versions...I chose Arisen Summoner (Arisen is a zombie race, and the Summoners summon the undead)...I was SOOO tempted to play a mage, her abilities are elemental (fire and ice), and I have NEVER even CONSIDERED playing a Mage before...But...The Arisen Mage has a huge reaper's scythe ...The warrior looks pretty badass, too...I had a tough time choosing...The thing that finalized my decision, was the fact that the Summoner can use poison, and can also inflict horrible diseases on the enemy, WOOT!!! :D

Not unless a zombie or a mutation reaches you first, FC.

But, we will see...
