It is a result of the perpetual need to not own up to anything. think of it this way:

Violent media is an easy target. kids are exposed to it, and even though there are warnings and ratings, people STILL let their kids have it. Soeven though the parents are now responsible, the blame can not possibly lay with the companies that produce it, they are easy targets. They are faceless and have deep pockets, so they are the bad guy. Never mind that many of the companies that produce the games arent making money hand over fist.

Plus, this way, the parents can try to point the finger at someone else, rather than having to admit that they suck and probably should not have reproduced in the first place.


Probably the worst offenders here are the blowhards in the government that scream at the top of their lungs that our society is collapsing because of Doom , GTA and the occasional slasher flick. Its a great, easy way to make a name for yourself as a politician, which is why they have been doing it for what, almost 100 years now? They cant get down on liquor too much. They tried getting rid of that 80 years ago and actually increased the number of people getting killed.

Why arent they screaming about child predators? Education? Jobs? Oh, well they do, just not as much. less glamour in real problems. Plus, they usually scream about shit they know NOTHING about. I saw a senator on tv back in the early 90s complaining about a certain cartoon on MTV and how it was destroying our country (like the popular media has THAT level of influence. they wish)... He called it "Beavy and Butthole". Had never seen even a clip from it, but had heard they swore and set things on fire.
