Yes, first Time. To be honest I didn't really know what was going on. I did know the writer/director was only 23 years old when he wrote this...wow his mind is amazing. ::love:: I had to look up the meaning and learn about Tangent universe. I dunno, it was okay. Now I can say I saw it.

There's different opinions on what's really going on. I'm firmly entrenched in saying the film stands on it's own -- regardless of what even the author says. I found it to be like Jacob's Ladder... it's a dream wherein the dead person tries to make sense of their own absurd death.
The opening shows the engine crushes Donny to death, and he "dreams" this elaborate explanation (time travel) to give his death meaning. When this meaning satisfies him, (at the end) he smiles contently, and is crushed, & "moves on". Perhaps the whole dream experience occurs the half second before he dies "my life flashed before my eyes".
No question many things happening were surreal, which is not consistent with pure time-travel-loop.
