The Witch (2016)

This film is marketed all wrong. Whatever the poster conveys, whatever the trailers describe, that's not it.

There are no jump scares, little action, and overall, not much witchery. The dialog is nearly uninterpretable, being lifted from 16th century court records, and much of the film trudges at a Kubrickian crawl. Most of the horror comes in the form of family loss and paranoia. If you expect something different, as I assume most would, you'll likely be disappointed. I went opening night with a bunch of dudes, expecting The Conjuring in the forest, and everyone including myself was underwhelmed.

However.

After pondering the film for a couple days, I'm finding myself wanting to experience the whole thing again -- the atmosphere, the dialect, the Shining-esque score, and those few chilling images, which seemed too sparse at the time. But perhaps the lingering effect they've had on me prove that this film really is one to be reckoned with.

I'm expecting more Goodnight Mommy and The Babadook than The Conjuring. I'm seeing it next Sunday.

I saw it last night. Babadook is the best type of film to describe. I'm aiming to see it again Tues with a buddy.

9/10.

I saw this at Walmart on blu ray and it caught my eye. I might have to watch it now.

I just read about this movie called Ratter. It's about a young woman being stalked by a hacker. Looks (partial) found footage.
I think it might your cup of tea.

7/10 doesn't sound too bad. I've really been wanting to see this, expectations are high on my part.

"Deadpool" 8-9/10

Not a fan of superhero movies, so I was very pleased to see this being an anti-hero movie. Not only a good one but one of the best I've seen so far. Constantly tongue in cheek and constantly entertaining. I agree with Horcrux that a third of the movie is backstory, but I've always seen the backstory of all superhero movies as the strongest part, so I actually appreaciated it. Also I will say that Ryan Reynolds is perfect for the role as Deadpool. It was Wan Wilder being diagnosed with cancer and then turned into a superhero. I'm really looking forward to the sequels, but only if they keep Reynolds as the hero.

One minor annoyance was the character Colossus, who I've been wanting to see for a long time (Haven't seen Days of Future Past) and who was disappointingly weak when it came to fighting. His strength couldn't even match some unknown woman??!!! COME ON!!! Whatever.. still a good movie.

NO, one other minor annoyance. The actor playing Deadpools bartender sidekick wasn't funny. DELETE!

Saw it yesterday. Loved it too. ::cool::

Just checked out the remake of Martyrs.

Not a good movie. There are a couple of good looking shots and the main actress Bailey Noble was pretty decent but other than that it was a completely unnecessary and pointless remake.

It entirely misses the point of the violence in the original. They try to switch things up a little but I think they failed miserably.

Has anyone else seen it?
Does anybody like it?

I came on here just to talk about the Martyrs remake, haha. I literally just finished watching it and overall I think it's an embarrassment to the original ...I'm a big fan of the original so was kinda expecting to hate the remake, and although I didn't *hate* it...it was even more tame than I thought it would be. The ending was OK, but it didn't leave an impact like the original did. I think it's such a shame they remade such a masterpiece (and failed so badly) because now even less people will watch the original, which really deserves watching.
