like i said, i give a hoot because i JUST watched 1-4 and have not found 5 yet. and again whether or not i should give a hoot is really none of your concern. just because i didn't watch them when they came out doesn't mean i can't care now.

You have good taste in F13 films, I also think #6 is the worst (though I havent seen 9-10 yet)

Part 5: A New Beginning
Last night I saw it. I really enjoyed it... even more than THE FINAL CHAPTER or most other parts! I think the idea was good....it brought a new/different taste to the series instead of those same old Jason's stuffs! and overall this film was well made than the part 4,8 & 9.
I have'nt seen the part 3 & 7 yet and tonight for the first time I'm going to watch the part 6: Jason Lives. Let's c....how it goes.:)

Franchise Discussion: Friday the 13th

As of last night, Ive finally completed the Friday the 13th franchise. Now, how about some nice friendly discussion?

Im sure that most any horror fan would enjoy at least one or two of the films in the series, because even if you dont like one installment you just need to wait for another sequel or two and it'll go in a whole new direction. Sometimes this is an improvement...other times it's not.

So what are everyone's favourite films in this infamous series? What were your favourite kills? Did you prefer the series when it tried to be somewhat serious, or once it got intentionally cheesy?

Personally, here's how I would rank the series from best to weakest:

Part III
Friday the 13th (Original)
Part II
Jason Goes to Hell
Part V: A New Beginning
Jason Takes Manhattan
Part IV: The Final Chapter

Jason X

Part VII: The New Blood
Part VI: Jason Lives

I really enjoyed all of them up until that first space. Jason X was decent and really fun in places, but not on par with the rest of the series. "New Blood" and "Jason Lives" were just garbage, though "Jason Lives" was by far the worst.

I know Jason Takes Manhattan gets alot of shit, but I thought it was alot of fun. It dropped most of the intentional comedy that was spawned by "Jason Lives", and despite its somewhat far-fetched plot it made a Hell of alot more sence than "The New Blood". It knew that the series was too far-gone to save, so it took that into account and didnt take itself to serious. Just serious enough to make a really fun little slasher flick, no more no less and not nearly as overthetop as "Jason Lives".

Note: I left Freddy vs Jason off the list because, to me, it was more of a Nightmare on Elm Street flick than a Friday the 13th installment. Jason was there of course, but it didnt really have the "feel" of F13. If I had to include it, it would probably go between "A New Beginning" and "Jason Takes Manhattan"

Thoughts?

Wha?! To me, excluding Jason X, 'Manhattan' had the most intentional humor.

I will defend 'Part VI' to the end. It brought back the campy, low-budge horror that 'Part III' had. Yes, it had some intentional humor, but it was intentional cheezy humor, and it knew that. To me, this is the second best in the series, because it's absolutely the least serious/ most fun, and the last with that campy "backwoods summercamp" with no other sub-plot gone-too-far feel that the series had. From then on it went to a Carrie rip-off "match-off", an overly 80s New York City rampage, and space. It was the last breath in the series if you ask me.

That being said, 'Part III' is without a doubt the best of the series. It's so damn fun, and what some view as its fault, I view as a triumph. Instead of concentrating on a storyline, it only concentrates on bad 3-D effects, which brings the tone of the film to a much more enjoyable level, instead of trying to outdo its previous installment.
