American Beauty is a fine film .. but it didnt speak to me. I'm the guys age - but experiencing nothing like this guy is. I'm not saying it's less natural than The Fly, but somehow i was able to sympathize more with Seth Brundle than I was with Spaceys character.

and i guess thats the key to me liking one film more than another when forced to chose (between 2 competently made films) - can i identify with/ or at least dig the character.

i would pick The Fly.


American Beauty amazed, astounded and moved me. The Fly just annoyed the heck out of me. And I'm a Cronenberg fan.

there's been a lot of times i've questioned the tastes of other folks .. but what are you gonna do - people like what they like - some films speak to people more loudly than others.

as long as they're not just liking something because they think they are supposed to .. it's pretty tough to be critical..
