Not great, not bad, just ok.
But there were some things I really liked.

I kinda dug that one. I mostly just liked the setting, and I loved the map of the asylum thing they had going on.

Personally the crazy guy they found in the house was my favorite part. Kinda lost me at the random black hole thing though... Couldn't have just been evil spirits corrupting their souls or something nooo had to go all bad CGI 3rd dimension on us.

Idk. maybe that was just me.

feardotcom 2002 rewatch

The movie is basically what you'd expect from the title. With one exception.

The film is about a website that's killing people. A detective and an infectious disease type expert are the main characters.

My impression is that there was once a decent script, but whoever had the real control over the film altered it in bad ways. Things are much too convenient. The main characters become close way too fast. The film takes place in about 3 days. Which leads the characters to holding each other for comfort and a hint at sex. The back story of the film is barely explained. There's even this line: "I've been doing some research, she was afraid of water." Research? How? Where? That fast? Pshaw.

What saves this film, which makes it worth at least one watch is the visual aspect. The sets, the lighting, locations chosen, camera work, etc are all amazing. Visually this film is fantastic. Its directged by the same person that did the remake of House On Haunted Hill and Parasomnia. Haven't seen Parasomnia though. Visually I think its better than House On Haunted Hill. Dark, closed in, the light of a day a glaring exception. Anyway, worth watching once.

5.5/10

PS-I had said earlier it was 'surprisingly good.' It really is due to the title I had expected it to be 3/10 or less.

Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation (2015)

By the time the fifth installment of a movie franchise rolls around, that series starts to show its age. Not with Mission: Impossible, it seems, because Rogue Nation is yet another incredibly silly yet undeniably entertaining entry in the 17 year old franchise that keeps you on the edge of your seat for the entire movie. This time around, Ethan Hunt is now an international fugitive and must take on his most impossible mission (heh) to bring down the rogue organization Syndicate, who are committed to bring down the IMF. The plot twists keep you on your toes the whole time, and it's really what makes Rogue Nation so thrilling. It does succumb to the normal spy movie goofiness, one time in particular early in the movie that made me shake my head at how ridiculous the whole idea was. The double, triple and quadruple crosses get rather confusing as the plot progresses too. There's never a dull moment in Rogue Nation, a suitably fun and over-the-top summer blockbuster, and it proves that Tom Cruise is an unstoppable action star.
