Tatts!

http://i1101.photobucket.com/albums/...os/tattoos.jpg

This is only about 3/4 of the tattoos I have...I also have more on my feet and ankles and have 3 big pieces still to come :D

I had each one done to reflect where I was in life at that moment, but also where I wanted to be in the future. Some I like more than others, but I don't regret a single one :)

Ferox13 04-25-2011 02:22 AM

Thats a lot of script (even more than me)..

What does the bottom right one this say?

The word 'Kil' in an Irish place name means 'Church'. So there's a place called 'Kilronan' meaning the 'Church of Ronan' (Thats my name).

And of course the Southpark related one 'Kilkenny'.

It is my favourite quote:
Some men see things
as they are and say why
I dream things that never
were and say why not?

You know what's funny - You changed your Avatar and sig so I didn't notice that it was you at first, but I thought, "Hey, Hammerfan should get that..."

Anyway - I think it's perfect. Go for it.

I was considering getting a Ferdinand the Bull tattoo for a while there. Still not sure if I want a tattoo yet, but we'll see.

Something like this, but with the flowers colored in red probably:

Well i'm not from Ireland myself but my family was, like further back. Not sure what part though. My grandparents both died when i was really young and it goes further back then them anyway.

I actually knew a girl who got it in color on the inside of her forearm. It was gorgeous.

I know somebody who recently got the Greek drama mask face thingies on each leg with little mottos (just general "deep" life stuff :P)

What are your opinions of getting things in some obscure alphabet. I've always found it quite cliché and almost a way for people to pretend to be more philosophical than they really are. I mean, when you think about it, you might as well get it written in English (or your respective first language) on your skin. It'd mean the same and be more relevant to you!

I can't stand people who get Japenese symbols and writing on them. Most of those people probably dont even know what they mean.

My opinion is you don't know what's more "relevant" to each individual person.

My Tattoo has latin writing. Does that make me pretentious?

I just get fed up with the countless people I've met with phrases like "Never Give Up" or "Determination makes the winner" written in symbols that they themselves do not understand, from a culture they have no link to. I'm aware it's their choice and their skin, but my opinion is that they're reducing their body to a human doodle-pad.

ChronoGrl 08-20-2011 03:03 PM

I was a classics major for a good part of college... For a while considered getting a phrase written in Greek from The Odyssey... I've since lost interest, but it was something very meaningful at the time... After spending a year in China I also considered a few phrases in Chinese, but it didn't materialize (mostly since Asian conji tattoos are so popular).

Anyway - When I see someone with a symbol or writing on them, my gut reaction is that they are just being trendy and have no idea what it means... But then I think, "Who am I to judge?" It must have meant something to them at sometime, even if it means nothing to anyone else. ;)

...

By the way... I'm scheduled to get the outline of my FIRST TATTOO on Tuesday.:D

And that's exactly what I mean by the relevance. Having studied/lived within these cultures, having a message in that language gives you the double hit of reminding you of your connection to it and whatever the message means.

The one that got me the most was a friend who at 14 got his brother to tattoo a supposedly mandarin symbol for "determination" on his thigh. He selected it by looking through a book of symbols before he finally settled on that...later on a teacher who spoke Mandarin assured us it was not in that language...he still hasn't found out which language it's from :D

But you MUST show us your tattoo when you get it!!

Fearonsarms 08-21-2011 05:33 AM

A mate of mine got a symbol tattoo on his wrist-its similar to @-but it means absolutely nothing in any language or to him. He just liked the look of it. He also has a rat on his leg.

Weirdest tattoo-a young woman I used to know who had tweety bird on her thigh-I always rooted for sylvester the cat myself.

Ferox13 08-22-2011 04:25 PM

Heres a pic with none of my tattoos showing :) :

I'm not posting a pic. I'm new, and we just met. :D

But, I do have one. It's a sword that goes down the full length of my spine.

Just got my first tattoo!!

I'm ridiculously pleased with it - The artist is really talented - I love what he did. I'm getting it colored in next month. Can't wait.
