They practice magic which is paranormal and they believe their magic works. Ghosts, extraterrestrial life and unidentified flying objects, and cryptids are also paranormal. People believe there is an explanation but science has yet to find them.

Traditionally yes, most believe ghosts to be the spirits of the dead, but there are many who also believe in other explanations such as alternate universes, poltergeist activity, or what is called a residual haunting which is when something traumatic or stressful occurs, such as a murder or a rape and that negative energy is literally blasted into the atmosphere, causing the atmosphere to imprint or record the events and like a recording tape, it will play the events over and over again.
