IMO "scary" is something that either makes you jump, squirm, lose your stomach, fucks up your mind, or of course you would never want it to happen in real life. Like I said earlier, only the first scene of The Ring, as well as the end when we learn the girl actually comes out of the TV to kill her victims are scary IMO. The rest wasn't scary at all. Pretty boring actually.

I found it to be real scary when I watched it at the age of 10. But to this day the part that still gives me chills is the beginning when the guy is trying to scare his sister in the cemetary and the real scary part has not even started yet. the main reason that movie scares me is because I have a fear of reanimated corpses, especially from this movie because it freaked me out so much when I was young. Since this is really a childhood scare I will give you a different one then that really got to me as an adult. I sit here trying to think of one and I cannot. i have watched movies that have caught me off guard and made me jump at isolated parts of the movie but nothing that had me scared out of mind. One movie I liked was Ghost Ship. I realize that some of you may not like it but I thought it was well done and had a good plot. I also liked Thirteen Ghosts which was made by almost all the same people.

oooh do we looove 13 ghosts. "samara" and I have watched this tape so many times I think it's wearing the tape out. Great effects, and the ghosts are pretty scary. I am still trying to find a good clear picture of "the charles manson of ghosts....The Jackyl" I want that as my avatar.

Intelligant Horror Movies

I think that the recent surge in Intelligant Horror Movies is a desperate attempt by the industry to legitimise the horror genre. I hope that the new Texas Chainsaw doesnt try to be intelligant and mysterious it is the mother of all slasher movies not a sophisticated intelligant movie.

bringing back old threads....
The Haunting of Hill House was really smart movie. It didn;t need gore to be scary, just good lighting and sounds.
