sadly there will be examples where there are some bad cops - where mistakes have been made ...

but there are far more bad guys than there are cops. even the minor league badguys like probably every single person here (speeding, copying DVDs :o

stuff like that.... shit it's probably 10,000 to 1 on really bad guys alone.

unfortunately it's the bad stuff that makes the news. we dont see a lot of press coverage where a cop saves someone - or catches the bastard that raped your daughter, or takes a knife in the back from the abused wife the cop showed up to help.

like i said before - there are more bad teachers, or doctors, or politicians, etc, than there are bad cops and i think they - in whole - have done far more harm in our society.

one thing to remember .. (and it goes for border police as well)

when being questioned .. be polite. dont be an asshole. stay calm and curtious. if being a big man smart ass is worth a cracked skull - then by all means - exorcise your right to call him/her an asshole.

just dont stand anywhere near me when you're doing it.

True.

I have known instances of cops taking a bullet meant for bystanders. Just how many times have they saved people from hijackings, kidnaps, rapes, possible killings, etc...common weekly occurrences which are too many to be recorded or applauded.

There are two sides to the coin. Of course, the shitty side makes the news and sadly, the bright side does not.

It all ends up for them of being worthy of a posthumous medal, or possibly a gold watch.

Nothing more.

"Sorry Paps, you did your bit. Life moves on."

People tend to forget that cops are also humans - some of them bound by duty, others bound by their job to support a family.

Mistakes happen. I think the guy at my office realised it too. He knew there was no way of taking back what they did to him in a week in the lockup.

For every bad cop, there are always 10 good cops.

A classic case of one bad apple spoiling the entire barrel...

For example: What is everyone reading or hearing about on the news in Philly right now? About a bunch of cops beating a suspect -- not about Sgt. Stephen Liczbinski, who was killed in the line of duty responding to a bank robbery. The people in the neighborhood tried to keep him alive until the ambulance got there, but it was too late. He had a hero's funeral today - complete with his body being taken to Cathedral Basilicia Sts. Peter and Paul by horse-drawn carriage. All of the political people were there: the mayor, the governor, the chief of police.
