Hate to vote against Sir James Whale...his contribution to the genre is undeniable. Initially wanted to vote him as I thought most would go for Hitchcock; but as now we see Romero(!) is becoming a threat for Hitchcock, so just decided to vote the greatest...who deserves most to win the tourney...Sir Alfred Hitchcock.

I find it really hard to disagree with this logic

and The Birds and Psycho are most definitely in the "horror" genre.

My logic is the same with Ridley Scott...It's percentage of output...so out of say 60 movies that Hitchcock directed he did 2 "Horror" movies...vs Romero who has directed say 15 films and at least 10 are in the Horror Genre.

I just don't consider someone a "Horror Director" unless a large majority of their output is related to the Genre.

I prefer quality over quantity.

As do I generally...but if you're an athlete like Michael Jordan and you're a great Basketball player and you go out and play 2 great rounds of Golf, I don't know that those 2 outings classify you as the best Golfer...

Hitchcock was the better Filmmaker...I won't argue that. But he didn't dedicate his life trying to evolve the Horror genre like George Romero or John Carpenter did.

He didn't need to- with one film he revolutionized it.


And in all honesty, I wouldn't say Romero has spent his life "evolving the horror genre." I'd say he spent about ten years doing that and the rest of the time spinning his wheels.
