CRYPT OF THE LIVING DEAD (1973) AKA HANNAH, QUEEN OF THE VAMPIRES-
This scared my Brother and I big time about 45 years ago, but sadly it hasn't aged well. Spanish film shot in Turkey was in color, but for whatever reason, Mill Creek had this version in Black and White. While it does add some atmosphere, the night scenes were almost impossible to follow.
Andrew Prine visits an island to bury his father killed under mysterious circumstances and ends up breaking the seal of a tomb containing a long dead vampire and the long ponderous way the menace is stopped. Some shades of THE WICKER MAN in here and actor Mark Damon (HOUSE OF USHER, THE VAMPIRE'S WEDDING-He later became a Producer) is OK and interesting to find out that Director Ray Danton was also an actor who was married to Julie Adams (CREATURE FROM THE BLACK LAGOON, BEND OF THE RIVER and the Elvis Presley film TICKLE ME) at the time.
Also in the same vein as TWM , Andrew's character is abrasive and incredibly condescending to the locals; along with the 70's style clothes, the slightly poofy hair and the mustache, my wife had to remark that He looked just like John Holmes::shocked::! **

Speaking of Movie of the Weeks... have either of you two ever seen Spell (1977)? I thought it was very cool. Along with Lee Grant is Helen Hunt's first film, bit part as the sister.

I actually haven't seen it yet. What do you think of it?

TaeKwonZombie 11-04-2020 11:05 PM

Well, I love cronenberg films so of course i enjoyed it, its full of body horror, creepy protruding spear like objects coming out of the body to poke and infect others, so they all become rabid together, very much like corona nowadays, people are infected by this disease, its pretty good, cronenberg did a good job of making more of these kinds of horror movies, that are kind of a under developed sub genre honestly, this one reminds me of existenz alittle with the body attachment shit, or the brood with the birth bag lol, yeah, in this case its that weird fleshy lookin (honestly it looks like an animal dick) thing, pretty creepy ::EEK!::

HOUSE OF THE LONG SHADOWS (1983). Standard Old Dark House story gets slight update with a writer betting his publisher He can crank out a book in 24 hours. His progress is stymied by a Family reunion that is occurring for ominous reasons. While Desi Arnaz Jr is somewhat annoying as the smug Keypounder, He's not too bad . The real reason to catch this is seeing John Carradine, Peter Cushing, Vincent Price and Christopher Lee all in one film and it's wonderful seeing them in the latter part of their careers, with Chris, in particular, standing out. >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>SPOILER>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
Depending on Your Point of View, the finale can be unsatisfying. still, just to see the Legends in one film makes it worth a view. ***

Having those 4 legends in it is why it's one of my favorite movies!
