I just picked up Richards Stanlys Dust Devil yesterday, The limited edition one which also has two versions of the film and three doc's that he did and the soundtrack. All for the low price of 40 dollars. Came with three little booklets too, one wich is a comic. Its pretty sweet. Havent seen this film yet but I'v really wanted to ever since I watch the doc In The Belly Of The Beast, which is about the Fantaisa film festival. Anyways thats my recent aquisition. I'll put up the review later tonight.

New DVD Acquisitions
I just acquired these on DVD.
Sister, Sister Queen Of The Damned The Skeletal Key The Manatou The Cat & The Canary (silent) The Giant Claw 50's Sci Fi Classics in one set Tarantula The Mole People Monster On The Campus The Monolith Monsters The Incredible Shrinking Man |
The Giant Claw? Wow. That's really something. That's one of the most maligned fifties sci fi movies. I've heard more smack talked about the Giant Claw than Cat Women of the Moon. I think that creature's really cool though, it's so far from anything in nature that it's legitimately repugnant, which is rare.

The Giant Claw
It is not comercially available.
However, there is a site called Forgotten Films that transfers digitally films from 16mm originals when available. The copy I had on VHS was from a firm called Hollywood Attic and it was not very good. I would have to give the FF one an 8.5 on picture quality. It has two of my favorite stars in it: Jeff Morrow & Mara Corday. Corday was quite a looker! She didn't play in enough films. After she married Richard Long her career vanished. It is my understanding that when Jeff Morrow went to see the film at his local theatre with his family, he snuck out part way through the film with his coat covering his face! This is a fact! He was great in This Island Earth, probably his best role on film. |
Corday is one of the reasons Tarantula's such a great movie. I don't think the cinema's ever going to get anything better than 50s B movie glamour. With the exception of Hammer and Eurohorror glamour.

Mara Corday
I agree with you 100%.
Mara Corday always added to the movie both looks wise and acting wise. I remember her also in several westerns: Foxfire (1955) with Jeff Chandler as Maria the nurse Drums Across The River (1954) as Sue Randolph, a saloon girl Dawn at Sirocco (1954) as Letty Diamond I taped these all off of TMC and then transferred to DVD. No commercials. She was quite attrative in all of these. Don't forget her in The Black Scorpion as Teresa Alvarez. She charges for autographed pictures (like $5 or $10). I did get the glamour pose. I did also get a second free autograph! When she endorsed my check! |
