that was the first one. And what I was referencing :)

When the Green Goblin is trying to stop spiderman from rescuing the kids and MJ... A smudge on an otherwise great movie.

But it was no Dark Knight.

I didn't mind that part in Spiderman at all, I think it fit the mood of the film just fine. Same with the mask part in Spidey 2.

*SPOILERS*

From The Dark Knight I would have liked more fleshing out of Dent, he transformed too quickly in my opinion. I wouldn't think that even a baptism in fire wouldn't have purged him of his convictions that quickly.

I thought the spiderman 2 scene was well done, the one from spiderman was just too hokey for me. New Yorkers acted like that for about a week after 9\11, after that, it was business as usual for america.

I completely got what it was there for (and, lets face it, the movies are fantasy...) i just didnt care for it.

It's definitely a moment that divides people and every Spiderman had that moment really. From the bridge scene in one, to the happy smile/jump/pause in two, to the long bad-boy dance scene in the third. I'd still put Spiderman 1 up there with The Dark Knight and Burton's Batman but that's the beauty of personal preference. :)

i think his fiance dying while he listened was the biggest push.

and screw the spoiler warnings anymore ...

if you havent seen the movie yet - you have no business being in this thread !!

Yes it was a big push but one would expect more grieving before everything he stood for collapsed. Still a great flick and I can't wait for the third but I think Joker carried TDK over it's speed bumps for a smooth ride.

_____V_____ 07-23-2008 11:46 AM

Dont forget Dent's anger. That is another big reason for him to flip early.

X¤MurderDoll¤X 07-23-2008 01:22 PM

I like how I don't even need to watch the movie now, because in reading this thread I think I have the jist of it.

If you want I can PM you all the scenes that fill in the gaps.

Why has everyone got a heathledger banner?

Did you guys start a gang? I'm actually sick of hearing about Ledger as the Joker, it is putting me off the movie.

This is the most overused image in the media at the moment in the U.k at the moment, anything to do with the darknight has it atatched. Have they forgotten about Batman?

Return and __V__ both have Batman. And I have both.

Vodstok 07-23-2008 04:11 PM

batman was great, christian bale was awesome, and i love how violently he kicks the shit out of everyone.

But heath ledger as the joker was way the hell over the top, and not in a bad way. he was exceptional in the role, more so than the other actors were in their roles, and that is saying a lot because there isnt a weak performance in the movie. Even the wimpy paranoid-schizo dent interrogates.

it's not often we get something other than a 2 dimentional by the books villian.

for me - this wasn't just the batman i've been waiting for - it had the villian - in any movie - i've been waiting for.

this one rare time - the hype is justified.

he has a lot of screen time - and doesn't waste a second of it.

i went in there with my guard up - prepared to be disappointed because i figured all the noise and interest was because the guy died ... well - i think that generated more interest than usual - but the word of mouth is carrying the film ... all the positive noise is justified.

as far as banners go - i have the only good one anyway ...

Vodstok 07-24-2008 09:54 AM

go read the trivia for dark knight on IMDB. heath ledger put a lot of work into that character, and it shows. probably my favorite thing i read was chris nolan's response when asked why he chose heath ledger:

"He was fearless".

Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures’ "The Dark Knight" has a real shot at crossing the $300 million mark at the domestic box office this weekend. If it does so, it would become the first film in history to hit that mark in its first 10 days.

Through Wednesday, "Dark Knight’s" cume was $222.1 million from 4,366 theaters after opening to a record-breaking $158.4 million last weekend. Film has also enjoyed record-breaking weekday numbers -- not counting holidays -- grossing $24.5 million on Monday, $20.9 million on Tuesday and $18.4 million on Wednesday.

"Dark Knight" would need to gross more than $62 million to reach $300 million this weekend, assuming it grosses $16 million on Thursday. Some box observers put the weekend number as high as $75 million-$80 million. The movie has become a phenomenon and is already destined to gross north of $400 million domestically.

It took "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest" 16 days to reach $300 million in domestic grosses and 17 days for "Star Wars -- Episode III: Revenge of the Sith." Last summer, "Spider-Man 3" hit the mark in 19 days.

GorePhobia 07-25-2008 02:07 PM

TDK will still become the fastest to 300 even if it doesn't make it in 10 days. They still have days 11, 12, 13, 14, and 15.

:)

ferretchucker 07-25-2008 02:33 PM

Anyone know a good argument I can use to get my dad to take me to see it soon?

which film is the competition?

I have a question, what started the hype before the movie's theatrical release? there wasnt nearly as much hype for the previous film. How did everyone know before hand how good it would be?

The idea of Ledger being cast as Joker, then the teaser trailer with Joker's voice, then viral marketing that was done EXTREMELY WELL, then full trailers, then Ledger's death, then more trailers, TV spots, word of mouth, sponsorships and lots lots more.

The movie it is beating out for the top spot is Pirates of the Carribean Dead Man's Chest I believe.

There is no nudity, sex or really horrid language....and just completely downplay the fact about how incredibly violent it is.
Tell him how this movie is considered far and above the BEST Batman flick.

Showing the IMDb ranking wouldn't hurt either. Convince him "Hey, it's good, take me."

You could always tell him you're going to hold your breath until he says yes, and then do it.

neverending 07-25-2008 08:29 PM

The weekend will have X-Files: I Want To Believe and the comedy Step Brothers lined up for release, both opening in over 3000 theaters.

They are predicting that TDK will go strong through the second weekend, but the above two should take a share of the spoils too. Although, Fox is already worried that X-Files will be swept off its feet.

GorePhobia 07-25-2008 11:16 PM

It will be:

1. The Dark Knight - $65 million.
2. Step Brothers - $30 million.
3. The X-Files - $25 million.

James Whale 07-25-2008 11:53 PM

Are these predictions or the actual grosses?

I thought you were talking about just Friday. I know about verb tenses.

GorePhobia 07-26-2008 02:09 AM

I am saying it will be as in meaning I believe it will be those numbers.

They are not actuals just my mere predictions.

Did you hold your breath? If so, how long did it take?

I'm not sure exactly because I passed out after the fifth minute.

So I see that you didn't notice that was a crack at you... so let me explain. Kids hold their breath to try to get what they want, therefore I was cracking at your age, but... I guess that must be above your head, which isn't saying much cause you're like 4 foot nothing. :D

ferretchucker 07-26-2008 08:36 AM

Lol, I did get it, but I thought if you can't laugh at yourself, you shouldn't be allowed to laugh at all.

And as for my height...have you been spying on me?

no, but you look like you're 7 and they are around 4 feet tall.
