here's a few latest ones :

Took this today ... I'm going to do the wedding photography for my friend so we went out to the location to do test shots. (this wasn't a great one - i was still learning the flash at this point) - but i thought it would be cool to show - the background is Billy Madison's swimming pool

I waited for this stupid seagull to duck his head - then i ran over and grabbed him. (then let him go immediately) Was suprised at how soft they feel.

Urge - Your pictures are fabulous... What kind of camera do you have?

I'm looking for a digital SLR. My Cannon Power Shot is ok, but I want something that I can use to control both apature, f-stop, and shutter speed.

thanks (i didnt think those were terribly good - just more of a 'here's what i've been doing this summer')

I went all out and bought the Nikon d300 .. probably more camera than i needed but i used someone else's Nikon and fell in love.

I'm still learning how to use the Nikon .. it's quite a curve... especially the flash i bough - a big semi manual Metz hammerhead... not easy to use right out of the box.

I'm reading good things about the Canon and the Sony Alpha700.

(my previous camera was a Sony Alpha100 and it wasnt bad at all ...

the Alpha 700 is about 1/3 less than the Nikon and it compares favorably.

i believe you can get good digital slr's for $500 - $700 these days.
double the price when you start adding lenses, etc.

ChronoGrl 07-27-2008 11:46 AM

Thanks, Urge.

I'm mostly impressed with the volley ball action shots... My little digital cannon is pretty much shit for shutter speed (been playing around with the feature today trying to take pictures of a running, squirming cat). Then again, this is more of a point-and-shoot than anything else.

Nikon's the name that I'll probably get - My last manual camera was a Nikon and by GOD it was a good camera so I've decided to stay brand loyal. I'll look into the other two that you suggested, though. And you're right - My price range right now is probably $500 - $700 (if I could pay off my credit cards and start actually saving of course - ha). I was just looking at the Nikon 6.1 MP, which is the same price as the Sony Alpha. I'll have to do some research. And, like I mentioned, be a little bit more disciplined with my spending. :o (I've gotten to a point where I am making WAY too much money to have the credit card debt that I am currently toting).

Went on a Ghost tour in Niagara on the Lake tonight. I dunno if it's dust or orbs but here are some of my better pictures.

http://photos-a.ak.facebook.com/phot...836392_586.jpg

this is Johnny's house in the Dead Zone. No lie. Walken and Cronenberg stood in this house :D proof: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0085407/locations

http://photos-f.ak.facebook.com/phot...36413_8255.jpg

The gazebo from the dead zone and what I think is an orb by Tressa, my cousin's wife and the tour guide of the night.

http://photos-a.ak.facebook.com/phot...36416_9465.jpg

Big post, sorry. Last one I promise. My cousin Tom dressed up in a robe and held a lantern while Tressa told us all the stories of the gazebo. She then explained about how every 5 years a man comes to search for the souls of his loved ones lost at sea, and that we came on a very special night and get to meet him. She instructed all 50 of us on the tour to shake his hand and say "Hello my name is...." as a custom. When it got to his girlfriend Val he pulled off his hood and proposed. It was sweet.

Great pics overall, and the tour sounds like a blast. The boyfriend and I will have to do one of those Haunted Boston tours at some point... I have to admit that I like the proposal story the best... Did she have any idea he was about to pop the question? That's pretty spectacular.

she had no clue. her first words were "fuck off.' then "shut. up." then "are you serious?" about 10 times, then finally "yes" and she didn't stop talking about it all night. The ride home was crazy.

My camera was acting up so bad all night. Outside the apothecary I replaced by batteries and then my camera just kept turning off until we walked away from the building. the camera worked fine until outside the Dead Zone house, then said low on battery and the flash wouldnt work. Outside the Oban Inn my camera said low battery and i couldn't get more than about 3 pics. walked across the street far enough away to not get any pictures and it was fine again. stupid ghosts.

Tommy, Val, Derek and I are doing a Halloween tour of Fort George in October, and maybe the Haunted Forest walk in Ancaster before then. It's so much fun.

As some of you may know I'm a qualified Junior Advanced Open Water Diver with PADI (I'll lose the junior when I'm 15. Then I'll be able to go down another ten metres ((Currrently, I can do 21M)) )

Anyway, in Tenerife we did 2 dives. One with Sea Turtles and one looking for Rays (didn't see any). Anyway, here's a few pics.

Here's me giving a thumbs up, when I suddenly realised that's the sign for "Ascend". I changed it to okay but only after the pic was taken.

http://i130.photobucket.com/albums/p...r/IMG_5683.jpg

Here's an anenome (What Nemo lives in). Pretty cool to look at.

http://i130.photobucket.com/albums/p...r/IMG_5691.jpg

Me and my Dad, who's also an advanced open water diver, looking at one of the smaller turtles. He was searching for food under the rock.

http://i130.photobucket.com/albums/p...r/IMG_5598.jpg

And finally, our good friend the Triggerfish. That thing would be one of the most dangerous things in the ocean if it were bigger. That thing that looks like lips, is a beak with razor sharp teeth and it's incredibly territorial and aggressive, continually biting our cameras and loose straps.

urgeok2 08-18-2008 05:27 AM

nice shots ..

i have a few from snorkling in Grand Caymans i should scan - but i wasnt happy with them ... when i was scuba diving i only had a video camera - using a still camera when snorkling sucks.

Here's a couple pictures I found really interesting. My wife and I were walking through the park and throwing some older bread out to the geese and ducks when we saw this guy. He ate fine, seemed to be doing ok, but if you look you'll see that his top beak is ripped off. You could see his tongue reach out and grab the food he was eating, really weird, I had never seen anything like it. Just thought I'd share.

ferretchucker 09-03-2008 06:52 AM

Yeh. But at least he can still eat. It's not how he is now that I feel sorry for, it's what must of happened to make it get ripped off.

Great Pictures! I love your sad rock! And I see a face in the mist too. ;)

Abominus 09-03-2008 07:33 AM

Nothing was visible while I was taking the shot so I was pretty surprised by the result. I'm a raging skeptic so I'm sure it was just the combination of warm B.C. air and the remaining snow on the ground, It's not near any water.

Still lots of fun and eerily coincidental since I can make out so many features.
