That's what got me started. To me eating meat is a selfish flaw of the human condition, just because it tastes good doesn't make it right. But I feel like a hypocrite because I eat and drink small amounts of cheese and milk... that's something I'll work on changing during the year.

Just look at our teeth, we're clearly built to be omnivores.

beef, pork, fish, shell fish, fowl (chicken, turkey, duck, game hens)
Don't think I could make it as a vegetarian.....

Actually, that's developed over time. We started off with teeth suited to herbivores. And look at the appendix, something to do with eating grass and other things like that.

But I still eat meat because me stopping won't do anything. And if I don't eat the meat, either someone else will or it will be wasted, and in the case of the latter would mean that the animals died for no reason.

And the choice to eat meat is better than other choices humans make. Eating meat, in the right amounts, is beneficial to humans. Smoking and other things like that aren't.

we have a lot of things built into us - physical and instinctual - that are clearly outmoded now - as a result in our evolution from the dawn of man to the present.

all it would take to have these teeth change would be centuries of not eating meat... another evolution..

we are always changing to suit our environment.

we dont need meat to survive - we need protein. that can be found elsewhere.

i just cant help wondering what makes us better than the animals we kill.
and as a race we dont eat tu survive - we're generally gluttons - eating far more than we need - at least in north america...

i dont know any other animals that do that - except maybe beagles.

We do it because we can, and because of our intelligence and resources, gathering food is easier. I'm sure if animals could get food as easily as us, they would be gluttons.

You don't need hundreds of DVDs, multiple televisions, or even a decent size house to survive either. It's about quality of life, if you think being a vegetarian will enhance the quality of you life... GREAT! I enjoy eating meat and don't think I'll ever stop. As far as the appendix goes, all of the potential reasons for the existence of it are theoretical. As far as teeth go, if our teeth started out as herbivore teeth and developed over time to be suited to eat meat then we must have needed that "evolution" for some reason. Anyway, it's been suggestion (by vegetarian groups that must push for everybody to join them) that humans should be herbivores because of their physiology (http://www.goveg.com/naturalhumandiet_physiology.asp) but most of the arguments have a counter-point. Do whatever you think you should to have a healthy, happy life folks...

Dogs can be gluttonous, so can fish, and cats... anything domesticated really.

I love beef.

You make good points. I'm pro eating meat.

The teeth thing is fair enough too. Evolution rejects anything doesn't work, and if it rejected herbivore teeth, well...

And that last points goes back to what I said earlier. Anything that has access to the food will eat it.
