i'm too protective of my vhs and dvds now. Use to lend em out...either didnt see them again or got them back with dodgy screwed up tape, or the disk had scratches on it.

the only people i'll lend to is my brothers.

ah... you just never learn your lesson, huh bloodrayne ! :p

my dvd's and cd's are my babies. and IF i am stupid enough to lend them out, i'm all over the person because of course, now that they're gone, i want to either watch/listen to them ( yup... i'm a pain in the ass ! what ? ) so i just stopped altogether ! better for my mental health, and especially their's ;)

Man, this thread has really put a chap in my ass.

YES I have lent out shit that 1) I never saw again; 2) saw again, only MUCH later; 3) saw again, only it was so beat to shit I didn't want it back. This has happened to me SEVERAL times!

I even tried to systematize my lending. See, I'm the type of guy who wants to share his shit, just so he can pass on an experience to someone else. So, after being a burned a couple of times, I decided to make a "sign out" list. Friends would write their name on the list, the item they borrowed, and the date they borrowed it. This way, I could keep track of where my shit was and how long, exactly, it had been missing.

But this crap didn't work either. I still got shit back in bad shape, or the people I lent the thing out to lost it or something.

Now, I don't lend out ANYTHING! Seriously. If someone wants to watch a movie or something, I make them sit at my house and watch it. If they want a book, I'd sooner go out and buy them a copy than lend it to them. This has led to some people actually trying to lift stuff from me. Whenever I have my good friend down from Jackson, I always have to check his duffle bag before he leaves to make sure he's not about to smuggle out any of my crap. It's ridiculous. My wife, even though she knows this about me, offered to lend one of her employees my copy of Aswang! I offended the guy when I vehemently refused, but hey ... fuck him.

People just don't realize that the stuff you lend them has a LOT more meaning to you than it does to them, and they treat your shit accordingly. I can't stand it.

Which reminds me, I need to return this copy of Un Chien Andalou to somebody ... he's probably missing it. Need to clean the soda off it first, though.

Dammit!!!

I am missing the following movies (at least these are the ones that I am AWARE of) :

Needful Things
Cube
Cube Zero (but, I just bought another copy)

And yes, I HAVE learned my lesson....I did NOT lend these out....It would seem that Seri's friends have lost them...

The last time I saw Needful Things on my shelf, was when Seri said, "Hey, Shane hasn't seen that one yet"...

Why don't they lose the ones that I can easily replace?

I learned the hard way not to lend movies out, especially to family. I loaned Aliens and An American Werewolf in London to my cousin, who loaned them to a friend who promptly "lost" them.

Yeah...This is a point that I can't seem to get across.....How can you lend something out, if it isn't even YOURS???

I know you do :)... And...This thread reminded me that I still haven't replaced 'Phantoms'....I did, however, end up with 2 copies of 'Sphere' because I replaced one, and then eventually got it back....Irritating....

hammerfan 04-14-2006 11:10 AM

This doesn't have anything to do with this thread, but........

I was a bad girl with my credit card yesterday - I bought all 7 seasons of Buffy the Vampire Slayer off Amazon for $140.00! I can't wait to get them and, no, I will NOT be lending them out!
