 . Many directors tried, but, in my view, no one succeded in re-creating that unique atmosphere which makes each Lovecraft's work a materpiece. It should be weird and old-fashioned, fantastic but also scary and overwheliming... it should be Lovecraft. Am I asking too much ;) ?

You are my new freind. i have been begging for this exact thing for years. Is it so hard?

And can we NOT have Stuart (Reanimator, Dagon) Gordon involved? AT All?

Maybe he can rent it on VHS when its released on it....

I know a lot of HP Lovecraft fans that liked it too. I am just continually disappointed by the movies made from his stories. Dagon (the story) had NOTHING to do with the story of the movie. The movie was a bastardised version of "The Shadow Over Innsmouth". Dagon was a suicide note.

Im just tired of them being made with enthusiasm but with no real talent or story-telling ability

Have you still not seen Re-Animator?

Very interesting answers from everybody....taking a step back, I notice a lot of people seem to think that modern horror movies aren't very good, on average, and would like to see them better made...

And a lot of people seem insulted by the trend of stupid "victim" characters--righty so, IMO, because if the majority of the "good guys" are idiots, then the characters the AUDIENCE is supposed to "identify" with are idiots. That of course means that there is a tendency on the part of horror filmmakers (or the studios that fund them) to talk down to, or insult their audience. In other words, many people seem to sense that their favorite genre has a disdain for the very audience that ponies up for the box office. "These people are idiots, let's make some more crap for them so they can buy us swimming pools."

So...smarter movies, smarter characters.

As for myself, I want to see:

"LEPRECHOSITY"

A leprechaun that is a computer-composite of 33 of the most dangerous leprechauns breaks free from the Matrix to seek his pot o' gold. Me pot o' gold, Missssster Anderson, I WANTS ME POT O' GOLD!

Dagon is a movie u can watch, but totally misses the atmosphere of "The Shadow Over Innsmouth" :(, one of Lovecraft's masterpieces. It's hard to explain, but HPL works such as "The Shadow..." or the "Colour out of space", or "The Dunwich Horror", has something unique which makes them great! I can't find the same quality in a movie like Dagon.

Re-animator... I can't shoot on this movie, but it's based on a short story that Lovecraft himself didn't like very much, written strictly under commission, episode after episode. I mean... the story isn't bad, but definitely it's not HPL at his best. And so the movie :p ...

There's nothing to do... I'm not satisfied with Gordon's attempts. I agree with Vodstok: he worked with enthusiasm, but something is missing and I'll be waiting 'till someone else "will find it", cause I'm not sure Gordon is fit to direct the movie I've got in mind.
Glad to know I'm not alone in this wait, couse I fear it will be a long, long one ;)

I think I've done this. I've never heard of anything else like what I came up with but of course I could always be wrong.
