Watching Damien: Omen II on Syfy right now

I guess it's alright. I remember being kinda obsessed with The Omen a couple years ago, and I watched all three of them (The Awakening doesn't exist).

The Black Cat (1981) -- 8.5/10; A meaty adaptation of Poe's classic that features some nifty camerawork and editing.

Last night I watched The Exorcist (director's cut). I still don't understand why they ever cut the scene with her coming down the stairs in the original, I think it was one of the creepiest parts of the movie!

What can I say, I will never get tired of watching this one!!

Probably because the scene didn't make any sense.

My husband watched it with me (his first time watching the director's cut) and he also thought it was a cool scene that should have been left in the original.

I get why you think it doesn't make sense but I think it's more of an "unexpected, I hope they jump" kind of scene.

SOYLENT GREEN (1973). Despite parodies of the ending (was 13 when I saw it the first time and was blown away) and lots of Heston hamminess, still a pretty decent flick and the date in here (2022) not too far off. Edward G. Robinson's last film and a great turn by him, especially in his final scene, even if being taken out by Dick Van Patton:shocked:! Lots of my favorites in supporting roles (Whit Bissel, Joseph Cotton and Chuck Connors) as well as the lovely Leigh Taylor-Young::love::::love::. ***

They cut the scene originally because it looked like shit - they fixed it up digitally in the rerelease making it look more 'realistic'/effective.

Arena (1989) -- 3.5/10; A laughable attempt at intergalactic pro wrestling that was unsurprisingly better than MONSTER BRAWL. Much work must have gone into the creation of the monster in the second fight, so kudos to the FX team.

An American Werewolf in London: 9/10

I have seen this film a few times before (though it had certainly been a while since my last viewing), and while I mentioned on another thread I enjoyed the Howling more than an American Werewolf in London, it is still, without question, an incredible film. The film is able to find the right balance between horror and comedy. If you like straight horror, this may not be the film for you, but otherwise it is really good. And, what is interesting is that the comedy does not detract from the horror. It really is quite complementary. There were also some great special effects and excellent makeup. Additionally, the direction draws you in from the beginning to the end. To add to this, the score really matched the film and the soundtrack was well-selected as well. The story is not particularly novel, but that is unimportant. The film is interesting because it takes traditional elements of werewolf films and uses them in new and often unexpected ways. For example, the ultimate "werewolf causes mayhem and is tracked down" scene begins in a porn theater. There was also a really good performance by the main actor and his character was very well-developed. Sadly, many of the other major actors/actresses were not as strong particularly the nurse. In fact, that whole sub-plot just seemed a bit forced and unrealistic. Many of the other minor characters were well-done though on a more positive note. While there may be some not as well-done things in the film and it is not straight horror, it is still a very strong horror film and one of the better werewolf films. If you still have not seen this film, I highly recommend it.
