Day Of The Dead (1985)
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedi...%29_poster.jpg The gore in this film is a huge step up from Dawn of the Dead (1978). Some of Tom Savini and Greg Nicotero's finest special effect make-ups that hold up incredibly well today. The real star of this movie is Sherman Howard who plays the zombie Bub and is arguably the most endearing movie monster since Boris Karloff in Frankenstein. |
Blue Blood (1973)
http://terrortakeaways.files.wordpre...eblueblood.jpg Reading Ollie's bio at the moment, so on a bit of a kick. I think I have this on VHS somewhere but never got a round to watching it. Reed plays the butler of a stately home who has a strange control over the other inhabitants. It reminded me a lot of The Servant (though not as good) with black magic overtones. Not a bad little film. |

6/10 http://i1281.photobucket.com/albums/...psa7e7167c.jpg 6/10 , nowhere near as good as the first one! |
THE VELVET VAMPIRE (1971). Strange moody vampire film that, like most early 70's vampire flicks, plays fast and loose with the rules. Not great, but worth a look with some decent acting (and gorgeousity) by Celeste Yarnall. **1/2

Suspiria (1977)
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedi...piriaItaly.jpg Dario Argento's visually stunning tale about an Amercian girl who goes to a German dance school and discovers that it's run by a coven of witches. The brilliant cinematography enhances the creepy atmosphere and the outstanding score compliments the mood perfectly. The special effects are both brutal and highly effective from the cringe worthy use of live maggots to the cliche bat flying in the window. Demons (1985) http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedi...poster1986.jpg After receiving complementary tickets a group of movie goers are trapped in a theater with demons. Ridiculously fun '80s splatter-fest with tons of brutal gore and a kick ass soundtrack. Quote:
