I've told a fair amount of friends, but I'm gonna wait for Dad to fully come to terms with it before I go fully public.

Wow, seriously? He DOES know that you can get trashed with
out being gay, right? ;)
It's so interesting that drugs+gay community seem intertwined in some people's eyes... The fags I've known have been totally sober and monogamous... Well, maybe alcohol and pot now and again, but who's counting? ;)
Anyway - I'm glad that your family stuck by you. Dad'll take some time and then he'll come around - You're right, it's all about education and persuading him that the perception isn't always the truth... We're all here for you, you know... And if you ever need to run away, you're more than welcome here in MA. And, hey, gay marriage is LEGAL here too, so that's a bonus.
I remember when I came out in high school - I was a sophmore and I was dating Erin, who was a senior. I told my mom and she was like, "You know, Amanda, you can still get...
pressure... from girls too..."
So my coming out resulted in my first "sex talk" (well, the first "
It's OK to say No" sex talk - The birds and the bees had already been explained to me before then)...
The funny thing is that I had dated this guy Pat most of Freshman year and The Talk never came up then... So there we go with the promiscuity assumption again...
My dad was essentially fine with it - He always liked Erin, so was more than happy that I was dating someone smart, older, mature, etc etc etc...
