Though I am always watching horror movies I haven't yet seen, I often re-watch films I have enjoyed in the past also. Here are a couple reviews of movies I have seen before and watched again recently.
The Loved Ones 2009 8/10. Clever writing. Brilliant casting! The "princess" character is one of my favourite horror movie villains; surprised that a teenage girl could be so maniacal. The film has a couple of very good cringe-worthy gore scenes and a fantastic ending that wraps up this twisted story nicely. I will watch this many times again. Rubber 2010 7.5/10. Who wouldn't love a movie about a psychokinetic tire on a homicidal rampage? This one is not for everyone. It kinda does the movie-within-a-movie thing and is sometimes difficult to follow. It's also very slow-moving at times, and doesn't contain the best, or even a lot of dialogue. I purely enjoy the concept of this tire killing people.. I think it's bizarre and hilarious and I really like it. Maniac 2012 8/10. One of my recent favourites. Elijah Wood does a stellar job of playing a serial killer, scalping women in the night and patching up mannequins in the day in this POV-style slasher. Super gory, intense movie with a lot of edge. I especially enjoyed one scene in particular, that pays homage to the original 1980 version. I felt the ending could have been stronger, but still very much enjoyed this experience overall. |
I wasn't too impressed with Maniac, but slasher movies in general aren't really my taste.

Have you seen "Open Windows" with Elijah Wood yet? I have yet to see it but it's on my list. It doesn't have the best reviews, but I'm hoping Elijah will deliver a strong performance. This one also uses a unique camera style where the majority of the film is shot using webcams. He's also in an upcoming horror film called, "Cooties" that I'm pretty excited about. |

I haven't seen Open Windows, but I saw the trailer, and it looked good. I also read about Cooties, which looks interesting as well. Have you seen Grand Piano? It's really good and intense, although there are a couple unrealistic parts. |
The Inbetweeners 2 (2014)
B+ Liked this a lot more than the first one. The script was better and so were the jokes. Wouldn't mind another sequel. Tusk (2014) B- The mix of comedy and horror/drama was a bit of a miss imo. Cast did a fine job. Story wasn't what I expected but it wasn't really bad. Just felt there was something missing. Overal quite original and worth a watch. |
The Descent: Part 2
Not as engrossing as the original, but it was just as scary, thrilling, and fun as the first one. My biggest complaint was the ending, which I felt was unnecessary.

![]() "Tusk" 7-8/10 Probably the best performance I've yet seen from Justin Long. Too bad it got downgraded halfway through the movie. Also Haley Joel Osment did good and I would've prefered seeing more of him and less of Johnny Depp who came out of nowhere and didn't really fit into the story. On IMDB Tusk is described as a horror/comedy, but in the end it was just really sad. But the first half was good. ![]() "The Salvation" 6/10 Classic western about revenge, revenge and more revenge. A not very original story that you've probably seen at least twice before. If this movie had been 20 years older I'm certain Clint Eastwood would've had the lead role. And here's a drinking game for ya. Drink everytime you hear a new accent. :D |
