Argo (2012)

http://i1097.photobucket.com/albums/...idhdc/Argo.jpg

A well made film with a good cast & decent characterization except the lead role done by the director himself...Mr. 'too cool' Affleck. But the main disappointment was as a "drama-thriller" nothing came new, exciting or that much interesting; other than having some idea about a seemingly interesting part of a historical event. The thing is, the way they adapted the "Canadian Caper" operation, it would better suited for a documentary film. But definitely it had great potential for a drama or comedy-thriller and to finally making a "drama-thriller" out of it, the story needed somewhat different approach, I guess.

Interesting. Makes me wonder if there's really communities like this in the south. As much as I liked it, I don't understand why the child is nominated for an Oscar.

Kind of, yeah. It's a super-dramatic, super-violent martial arts action flick. And it's really great. I was pretty blown away by it when I saw it. It's kind of hard to find, but definitely get a hold of it if you can. I think you'd really dig it.

Much lighter and trashier than I expected but still a pretty good Tommy Gun fuelled Gang Flick.

The Bourne Legacy (2012)

Same old story.

Berberian Sound Studio (2012)

The premise was interesting as it centers on the character of Gilderoy (Toby Jones), a British Foley artist working on the audio track for an Italian Giallo film, The Equestrian Vortex. Now, after watching the film, I tried find a clue what the director tried to show in this movie & in wikipedia just found that "he wanted to 'make a film' where everything that is usually hidden in cinema, the mechanics of film itself, is made visible. Berberian...turns this on its head. Here, the film is out of view, and you only see the mechanics behind it". And on that note, he was quite successful. Perhaps it was psychologically twisted but other than that out of focus "Giallo film" on this film, I failed to figure out what it was actually about & what really happened at the end.

Django Unchained

fucking loved this movie

The Villain 01-20-2013 09:48 AM

Mama
This was excellent. The story was done really well without shoving it down your throat. It wasn't over saturated with countless scenes of research and they didn't stick to typical cliches. The scares were great and the atmosphere made it all the more creepy even during the non jump scenes part. Strongly recommend.

Zero Dark Thirty
I thought this would be more interesting but i just found it really boring.

Silver Linings Playbook
I actually really enjoyed this. The acting was good and i liked the story. They seemed to shift focus halfway through the movie but ultimately it's a love story so they stayed on point with that respect.

Taken 2
I liked this and found it entertaining but only as your typical action movie. I think what hurt this one in my opinion was that the first one was so good, there was no way this could live up to it. I wished they had tried harder though. There were a few things i didn't like about it. The daughter seemed perfectly fine in this movie despite the fact that she had been kidnapped by sex traffickers in the first one. Either she's the most well adjusted person in the world of the film makers just chose to ignore it. Also Liam Neeson takes his ex wife and daughter to a foreign country for vacation and even leaves his daughter alone in the hotel despite the fact that only recently she had been kidnapped in a foreign country. For a guy who freaks out when his daughter misses their time together so she can go out with her boyfriend, this just seemed off to me. Plus in the first one, he was so passionate and driven to get his daughter back. He shot his friends wife in the arm to get her back but in this one he just seems tired. He even says as much. But despite it's flaws it's still fun just not as good as the first one.

Gangster Squad
Boring and none of the actors seem to take it seriously. Avoid this one.

The Apparition
Boring, silly, and not scary at all plus none of the characters act in a manner that normal people would act.

Snow On Tha Bluff

a mockumentary style film following around a couple of small time gangsters in the dangerous streets of urban atlanta. Extremely realistic, almost questioned if I was watching found footage for a bit. Highly entertaining, very well acted considering all were first time actors, and VERY convincing, definitely give this one a watch, one of the most entertaining flicks I've stumbled upon on Netflix in a long time, and one of the best Hood movies i've ever seen.

Thanks for the heads-up on Mama, Villain.

http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/...500_AA300_.jpg

Despite honest efforts by the leads, the film doesn't impress. Main reason being a weak script and patchy direction, except for the final 30 minutes or so. Mildly entertaining with that last chase through the streets of Manila.

Fearonsarms 01-20-2013 10:31 PM

11-11-11 (2011) Not a bad little horror film for all it's minute scope, seemed very patchily delivered like the makers weren't really sure what they were doing. Not a waste of time but not one I'd revisit either.

The Keep (1983) Directed by Michael Mann, this supernatural horror aims for an almost dreamlike aura throughout and succeeds in that but lacks substance and bizarrely shies away from scenes (which shouldn't have been avoided) that could have lifted it's enjoyability much more. Good that it's something a bit different but I just didn't engage with this, there was nothing to draw the viewer in, it's too cold and ultimately hollow.

Silver Linings Playbook (2012)

http://i1097.photobucket.com/albums/...jidhdc/SLP.jpg

The first half was quite good with some funny side characters but as a romantic drama/comedy it just falls bit flat, typical & predictable in the later parts. Perhaps I was expecting a lot from Jennifer Lawrence's character but didn't came out that much interesting as I though it'd be. But surely she & the rest of the cast delivered a good show overall.

Of course, I had to go to Netflix to read what this is about. Here's one of the reviews:

'Massively pretentious' were the first two words that came to mind. That being said, if you are tired of watching films and wish to trance out to some rather innocuous music, you might find this just what your therapist ordered. The imagery certainly sent me into an altered state - which might mean that I hallucinated the ending.

Extremely loud and incredibly close. The reviews suggested it was going to be an interesting watch.I hated it,just because a film has the main character doing a narrative throughout does not make a film inspiring, heartwarming or indeed 'good'.There's an hour and a half off my life which I'll never get back.

Let Me In - 8/10

Good movie with a good plot. Not really a jump scene horror film but great still. Loved the fact they kept true to the vampire "rules" like the inviting in and puzzles. Deff recomend watching it if you haven't.

V/H/S - 2/10

I'm not really sure what I was watching and why? Stop watching it after an hour. Boring movie and just weird.

Midnight Movie - 5/10

Nothing really special and kinda cheesy. I would say it's one of the "I'm bored" movies. Not a good watch but not a bad one.

Never heard off Back from Hell. I might give it a go!

Prom Night III: The Last Kiss (1990)
http://ia.media-imdb.com/images/M/MV...0,214,317_.jpg

This third movie in the series which ends up being a really fun comedy at times.

If you looking for Horror movie this is not one at all, As this sequel to second bring back Mary lou again.

This movie was no were near as good as Part 2, I not sure if liked this better then first at the moment.

I did find some of this movie more fun to watch then the first prom night movie.

Some of the deaths were very, what that word I am looking for, Fizzy , yeah go with that.

I didn't really like Hell scene in the movie, seem out of the place and the acting in this movie was not bad,

I give 4/5 out of 10

Prom Night IV: Deliver Us from Evil (1992)

http://t2.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:A...O9c5gHKWq-zaaE

So second time in series, this movies to new story, this as got nothing to with any of the ones before.

However the opening scene is might to be the same night Mary Lou died by the fire in part 2, However as that happen out side a crazy priest killed two of teens who were having sex,

Few years later Prince is back and start the killing spear off again and kills anyone is having any Sex.

This movie got to bit more serious then the last two movies in the series

I thought the story was little weak for this series, I didn't fact the series went from comedy to serious again,

I Thought the movie was very slow and I didn't think the movie that creepy or scary and the movie wasn't that fun to watch.

the acting was really good from the whole cast

Not sure what to rate at the moment!

Prom Night (2008/I)
http://ia.media-imdb.com/images/M/MV...V1._SY317_.jpg
I have seen first prom night movie, I thought it was really dull and boring wit some decent acting from older actors playing teens.

This is not real remake too the Prom Night (1980), it' nothing like first movie at all.

This movie start off with fake scene or dream she telling some one that family were being killed.

I did like that scene in that movie, I thought it was very decent scene but it's shame it fake scene in way. that the best of the movie.

I found the rest of the movie really dull at times, I didn't really like Killer or the way he killed people off, the kills were all the same, the ones that were not of screen.

The acting wasn't too bad but the story was very bland from the start to the end.

How the movie was very predicable too, I don't think was the worst slasher movie I seen, I seem a lot worse then this.

However I don't think this was better or worse then first prom night movie.

Meh. I've seen enough Bad-People-Who-Do-Bad-Things films and this didn't really strike a chord with me as particularly different or enjoyable. I know that Fortunato loved it, but just not my thing. I'm sure folks here will like it but - meh.

The Butterfly Effect (2004)

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...ps67b1082c.jpg

My first time watching this and I was actually really impressed. I mean, ASHTON KUTCHER - Didn't really expect this to be good at all... But, honestly, I thought that it was a very clever and well-done modern sci-fi tale. It's little trick gets silly after a while, but honestly I liked the way that it played out. Ultimately melancholic and a good watch. Really liked it. I think I saw Part III when it premiered with the After Dark films and though that wasn't so bad either. Hmmm... Wonder about Part II...

The Bay (2012)

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...psabdf263d.jpg

Yick. I mean, seriously, ICK. This movie made me want to bathe myself in rubbing alcohol, never drink tap water again and never, EVER go swimming. Suffice to say, it was an incredibly successful outbreak film; horrifying, sad, disgusting, and well-done. My only complaint is that the narrator was weak and often didn't emote properly given the subject matter. Other than that, I was genuinely surprised. As long as you're not sick of Found Footage yet, give it a try.

Flawless

Interesting crime drama/social problems drama starring Robert deNiro as an old school, aging conservative cop who gets shot during a crime and wakes up partially paralized. Philip Seymore Hoffman is a drag queen he goes to for singing lessons as speech therapy. Bravura performances from both actors as they learn to deal with each other. A well balanced mixture of drama and comedy, which is hard to do.

Well...for the first 10 minutes you ain't going to know what the fluck is going on. Then via flashbacks it will come together but it's still a pretty effed up ride. Talking dog, meat monsters, parallel universes .....effed up but a fun ride. Keep a look out for The Tall Man in a cameo.

Kill Theory (2009)
http://t1.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:A...iNFYnHDSt5XGqE

I Thought the trailer made this movie look really good with a lot action it.

This movie 3 couples going to cabin for the weekend and soon are in danger when some stranger Kills one their friends and tell to Kill there Friends, If no one kills they will die.

I think the plot for the movie was decent twist on normal cabin in the woods movies There had some decent actors, who don't over act their scenes.

There were decent Bloodly moment in this movie, they could have been more bloody for slasher movie.

I felt this movie a bit too much like Donkey Punch that came year before, Which I didn't really like at all, (Not seen it that movie for while, May need to re-watch that, I didn't really like that at the time)

I didn't like how the movie ended at all, I thought it decent twist on normal slasher movie but don't think there anything that really stood out their for this movie to get notice.

4/5 out of 10

A Little Bit Zombie (2012)
http://t3.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:A...lGnpc5zosoEvMn
This movie of with mosquito flying and there stink a Zombie, Mean while a guy, his best friend, his sister, and his bride-to-be (also a "bridezilla") come to the Cabin to have Stag night.

Craig get bitten by that mosquito zombie, Some he slowly start act a bit diffrent then normal.

This movie had me laughing a few times , with some silly gags like Farts and Funny vomits scenes.

I one the worst Chick fight scenes but I do think it was meant to be bad as I did find it funny.

There were some bloody moment in this movie at start and in the last few scenes, The rest of the movie wasn't meant bloody moment.

As Craig is only a bit of a Zombie,I think the acting this movie is very campy and in fits in perfectly with the rest of the movie.

During the credits there some funny pictures and small scene at the very end, which I thought was nice funny touch to this to campy fun movie.

it not as good the big names like Shaun of the Dead, Zombieland, Braindead, this movie is more on the level of Fido or Wasting away.

I going 7 out of 10 really good fun!

Ice Pik 01-26-2013 04:04 PM

Newb - Sounds interesting, you find it on netflicks?

Hellraiser 4 - bloodline 5/10

I haven't watched it since I say 99ish and figure I'd watch it again and idk still how I feel about it. A bit overdrawn and during half way through the film you kinda were like is it over yet? Still had good death scenes but the cenobites really didn't freak you out like the first 3. Pinhead seemed more friendly and human but still love the "I AM PAIN" scene. Too Hollywood.

First of all, it's great to see that hot Ginger Snaps chick Katharine Isabelle is back to horror but the film is kinda weird. At first it looked like this is going to be quite interesting body-horror extravaganza but I'm not sure, may be there was something missing in the story...probably a strong or interesting "antagonist" for Mary I guess and other than that it was decently made with a pretty interesting & unpredictable storyline. Recommended.
