6 is actually really good, one of the better ones besides the first two IMO, I'd give that one a chance.

Jigsaw Killer 06-20-2013 09:39 PM

On another note, did anyone go to Universal's HHN Saw attraction? Looks like it would've been pretty fun.

Same here. I'm not a fan o this type of plot (characters being imprisoned, tortured and forced to solve puzzles) but Saw 1 was intriguing. Maybe that was the main reson behind it's success - it was so original and unexpected when it came out that it earned the reputation that could justify so many sequels.

After reading some posts in this thread I want to give this series another chance. Which movies should I skip and which are recommended (except first one)?

Jigsaw Killer 06-27-2013 03:36 AM

All of the sequels tie heavily into the first movie and build upon various plot points, so you'll want to see all of the sequels. It's also worth noting that each one picks up where the last left off. So you'll want to see all of the sequels at some point.

I agree completely. To get the most out of any single film in the series, you need to watch each movie in order. That's what got me hooked -- the serial nature of it, and how each movie ties together. If you were to watch one movie in the middle of the series, it would be confusing, and much of the effect would be lost. I'm not saying the story and all it's twists and turns is amazing or anything, but it's like one big soap opera, and that's what makes it fun.

Jigsaw Killer 06-27-2013 02:11 PM

It's very interesting to go through the series again when you've seen them all, knowing how everything goes down and piecing it all together. It's definitely a series you need to watch in order to understand it.

Nates Vault 06-27-2013 07:20 PM

I have to say (and I hope that I don't draw too much ire here) that when I watched Saw my immediate response was "these people did not have faith in the central conceit of their film". The movie happened in that room as a play between two characters. Every time we were pulled away from that it became less and less interesting.

In all, I thought it was a brilliant idea, nearly pulled off.

The sequels have seemed derivative and schlocky (don't get me wrong, I love me some schlock).

Just my thoughts.

Jigsaw Killer 06-27-2013 07:58 PM

Have you seen any of the sequels? They certainly differ quite a bit from the original's approach but they build upon it in an interesting way.

Nates Vault 06-28-2013 07:33 PM

I believe I have seen them all. My wife loves them. She also loves the Resident Evil movies.

Jigsaw Killer 06-28-2013 11:03 PM

I've them all many times and have done a couple of marathons of all seven. It's one of my Halloween traditions every October.

Jigsaw Killer 07-08-2013 10:10 PM

Did anyone ever go on the Saw roller coaster at Thorpe Park in the U.K.? Some ride POVs of it can be found on YouTube, looks like a fun and intense ride.

Jigsaw Killer 08-19-2013 09:59 AM

I've been a little nostalgic lately for Saw, I remember it was usually this time every August from 2005-2010 that the trailer for the newest sequel would be released. I remember how exciting and fun those times were, all the speculation leading to the release as October near. Good times.

HorrorJ 08-22-2013 06:13 AM

I would say that, just based on acting and liking the characters, the first one would be my favorite. However, I was thrilled to finally see Jigsaw/John and his scenes with the cop. But I couldn't sympathize with the "victims" so that threw me off.

Jigsaw Killer 08-22-2013 08:19 AM

For me the most unlikeable protagonist in the series by far is Jeff in Saw III. I just found him very unlikeable and unsympathetic, and he took forever to make a decision and he didn't seem to learn anything from his test throughout his journey. I found him pretty boring and devoid of any sort of personality or interesting characteristics as well.

I already posted my ranking in order of preference before, but the series for me goes:

2
1
6
5
4
7
3

HorrorJ 08-22-2013 12:07 PM

I do agree about Jeff. I found him a bit annoying also. But you just can't beat the pig scene and brain surgery! I honestly had to almost leave the theatre room during the pig scene, I was getting so nauseated.

Jigsaw Killer 08-22-2013 03:07 PM

The Pig Vat trap I found boring, but I agree the brain surgery was amazing and I also enjoyed the Rack. One of my favorite traps.

I marathoned the entire series all day yesterday as part of my Horror schedule this month. Anyone else marathoned the saga this month or will?

I did that about six months ago on a week long binge that included quite a few series of films ... problem is that after so much viewing I tend to find I forget most of it :D

Not one of my fave sagas anyway by a long chalk.

Jigsaw Killer 10-15-2013 11:43 AM

It's kind of an acquired taste for some with how the storyline changes as the series goes on.

TheFext 10-27-2013 01:02 PM

I really like the series for the fact that you get suprised by the ending of them all. When u start watching one of them u feel u got it all figured out but then u get suprised. A little repetetive but the endings is always great. Not many movies has accomplished that. Especially not movies with 7 parts. Thats why i rank saw pretty high.

Jigsaw Killer 10-28-2013 05:47 PM

Yeah, the series definitely kept you in suspense and on edge throughout and you were always eager to see where it'd go next.

Jigsaw Killer 11-05-2013 02:02 PM

Saw VIII has been announced recently as being in active development, not a big surprise. I had a feeling a new film would inevitably be made. I wonder if we might see it materialize next year?

Jigsaw Killer 12-28-2013 05:29 PM

I was thinking on the subject of a new Saw film, would you prefer a reboot that completely redoes the storyline or a sequel picking up from 7? I honestly am fine with either. A sequel would be cool to see but the original storyline got stretched pretty thin and the actors are much older, now. I'm honestly not opposed to a reboot done right, as I think a fresh start is what the series could use.

saw1 01-24-2014 11:53 AM

hello hello hello hello...!!!
Come Back...!!!

I hear that adam stay alive ..
whats in your mind about that ...???
I think it may be an excellent idea if the writer can find a good scenario to it .

what do uou say about that ? ?
_____

Jigsaw Killer 01-26-2014 02:47 AM

Without spoiling a decade-old movie, I very much doubt Adam is still alive...

Crude 01-30-2014 03:23 PM

LOVE this whole series, and have the collection in my DVD rack!! ::embarrassment::

Jigsaw Killer 01-30-2014 07:07 PM

I own them all as well. Got the unrated versions of all seven and also have the theatrical cuts of 1-4 in addition.

My ranking preference for the series is still the same and I think it'll always be:

2
1
6
5
4
7
3

Fearonsarms 02-05-2014 11:00 AM

I'm pretty excited at the thought of a saw 8 I hope it will take the series in a slightly different direction could be very interesting I look forward to it.

Jigsaw Killer 02-05-2014 03:41 PM

I wouldn't be opposed to a reboot that's the start of a new canon, I feel the series still has a lot of untapped creative potential that arguably may have been lost along the way with the corner the series got painted into with the third film.

Fearonsarms 02-05-2014 04:05 PM

I agree there is definitely potential for a different direction but I wouldn't be opposed to a sequel to Saw 7 as such. I also hope it's not another Saw 3. I'm hoping for kind of like the jump from Saw 1 to Saw 2. I mean still have the puzzle solving and some gore but let it be not just about that. I'm sure there will be some sort of twist to the film whichever way they go about it. They could do anything with the franchise now and I'm very interested to see what they do. I don't want to have too high expectations though.

Jigsaw Killer 02-05-2014 04:09 PM

I wouldn't mind a direct sequel either, I think the way 7 ended there's definitely room for at least one or two more. I would hope they take their time crafting the films and not rushing them and also not using Saws III and VII as a template, the more gore-driven entries. I want the psychological mindgames to return full-force.

Fearonsarms 02-05-2014 04:35 PM

Yeah there's no reason for it to be rushed. Fingers crossed it's better than parts 3 and 7.

Jigsaw Killer 02-05-2014 06:32 PM

Four years after the last movie, no reason it can't turn out good and among the series best.

Yogobro298 02-17-2014 10:11 AM

Just finished watching the whole SAW collection For some reason I didn't like that Jill died and John told Dr.Gordon to protect/watch over her and didn't do anything till the near end of the movie.

Jigsaw Killer 02-17-2014 10:21 AM

You might want to spoiler-tag that for anyone who hasn't seen the films...

Hope you enjoyed the series, though :) How do you think you might rank them?

NightOfTheLiving_Sam 02-26-2014 02:39 PM

I only thoroughly enjoyed the first two Saw's, I pretty much lost interest after the 2nd one. Not sure why though, I'll give the other ones a watch one day.

Alicja 03-07-2014 10:35 AM

To be honest I'm not sure if a Saw 8 is the right direction. I don't know, I guess I'd be worried that it wouldn't live up to the rest :) Personally, my order of preference goes

Saw 1
Saw 5
Saw 2
Saw 6
Saw 4
Saw 3
Saw 7

The series is worth catching up on if you liked the first two but sadly the quality took a dive, though 6 came close to the first two.

Jigsaw Killer 04-01-2014 11:06 PM

I just realized the 10th anniversary of the original will be this October. How time flies, doesn't feel like it came out a decade ago at all.

Jigsaw Killer 06-10-2014 07:46 PM

Saw is only months away from turning 10, how time has flown. I'm surprised the studio hasn't gotten a Blu-ray set of all seven done to mark the occasion, unless they're doing it at a later date. I wonder if anything special will be done for the anniversary, hard to believe such a notable film's anniversary will go ignored.
