Ok.

This goes against all of my Horror Purist sensibilities but, damnit, the Red Band Trailer looks FUCKING. AWESOME.

Angra 11-14-2012 05:45 AM

It's gonna lack Ash.

Without him i don't see this one become a classic.

ChronoGrl 11-14-2012 09:33 AM

I don't think it'll be a classic; I'm just hoping that it'll be a solid watch.

Angra 11-14-2012 12:25 PM

Yea well... looks like it's gonna be entertaining enough. And gory.

Ice Pik 11-14-2012 02:31 PM

The Trailer does look like it might be an alright remake....we'll see.

I agree, it looks really good!

Sorry Michael, saw your reply just now.

I think the original Necronomicon book was pretty spooky, but this one looks very raw as well. I like it's naked, butch look, something expected out of a TCM film. It goes to show how the film is going to be.

And judging by that red-band trailer which Chrono posted, looks like it's going to be f***ing sweet. Can't wait.

New generation needs to see remake of evil dead.

Like most I was really skeptical when I first heard about this remake. But after watching the trailer I can't help but be excited. It's obvious that you can't compare this film with the original, but it should be pretty damn good nonetheless.

m1sfit38 11-25-2012 08:42 PM

I haven't heard anything about a remake of the evil dead movie but i do know that they have created a musical.... and strangely enough it was brilliant or at least it was in my opinion. I can alwasy go for a little bit of musical taste with my horror like Repo. It gives it a fun twist

_____V_____ 01-03-2013 09:39 PM

New full red-band trailer.

Damn, I cannot wait.
I never thought I'd say that about an Evil Dead remake.

Ice Pik 01-04-2013 04:41 PM

I know. These trailers are really make it look like its going to be a badass remake. Lets just hope its not a "well the trailer was awesome but that all" movie

Nice shot! :)

I read an article that said they weren't using CGI??? Shenanigans... I am intrigued though.

"Director Fede Alvarez has long promised to take the Evil Dead series back to its grimy, gory roots, and judging by the recent trailer for his remake of the original film, that’s exactly what he’s achieved.

And according to Alvarez, part of that unvarnished appeal lies in the absence of any CGI, with everything contained in the film having been shot “as real”.

“We didn't do any CGI in the movie,” says Alvarez. “There's no CGI in the movie. Everything you will see is real, which was really demanding. This was a very long shoot, 70 days of shooting at night.”

“There's a reason people use CGI,” he continues. “It's cheaper and faster. I hate that. We researched a lot of magic tricks and illusion tricks. We really pushed the boundaries, trying to create those illusions.”

What certainly stands out from the trailer is the sheer volume of gore involved, and Alvarez promises that the teaser represents a fair reflection of the level of splatter present in the finished film.

“It has a particularly bloody ending,” says the director, teasingly. “The last scene... I want it to be the bloodiest scene ever. And I think it is.” We’ll look forward to watching through our fingers when the film arrives on 19 April 2013."

I saw Evil Dead the Musical. It was a theatrical play at a local playhouse. They provided plastic tarps for those that wanted to sit near the front, because the the blood and guts were not confined to the stage. :D

Regarding the upcoming movie... I'm utterly beside myself waiting for it to come out. It's been a long time since I've anticipated a movie to this degree. Can. Not. Wait.

New Evil Dead

Is anyone stoked to see the remake of Evil Dead? It looks much darker than the orginal. Might be good.

Kandarian Demon 03-17-2013 05:46 PM

As a hardcore fan of the original, my first reaction when I heard about the remake was "this is blasphemy!".

But after watching the trailers, I have to say I am extremely excited to see it! I don't expect it to as good as or better as the original, though - at least not for me. But at least judging from the trailers, I think it has the potential to be awesome. Can't wait to see it :p

evil dead remake

So remakes get a lot of greif on here. .. which I totally support. But the more I see traillers the more I wonder. ... what if its good?

Straker 03-24-2013 11:57 AM

Gotta judge every remake on its own merit... The main problem with most remakes is they are made to cash in on name recognition and knocked out without much care or attention, but there have been a ton of amazing remakes over the years. The fly, The Thing, Scarface, then there's the Kurosawa style remakes of which there are a bunch of amazing examples.... If it's done well and there's a point to it beyond cashing in on the Evil Dead franchise it has the potential to be as good as any 'original' movie.

metternich1815 03-24-2013 12:01 PM

I am definitely very excited about seeing the remake of the Evil Dead. I greatly enjoyed the original 1981 classic (which was relatively dark, especially compared to the sequels). I just hope that it does not get ruined like many other horror movie remakes. Although, it should be noted I liked the remakes of 13 Ghosts, The Thing (from Another World), The Fly, and My Bloody Valentine. The remakes of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre and Dawn of the Dead weren't perfect, but they were pretty good (i'd give them about 4 out of 5 stars). For Japanese remakes I enjoyed the remake of The Ring. But, then you also have the remakes of Halloween, Friday the 13th, and Halloween, which had interesting ideas, but simply did not deliver. Lastly, you have the last line of remakes, which are the worst, such as Psycho, Black Christmas, The Fog, and The Omen (just a note all the films originals were very good, I am only praising or criticizing their remakes). These films are not even worth the film they were printed on (so to speak). Thus, there are,at best,an equal amount of good remakes, as there are bad or terrible remakes. Ultimately, it will be interesting to see where the new Evil Dead movie will lie.

neverending 03-24-2013 12:51 PM

Even if this remake is "good" it doesn't stand a chance of equaling the original. I remember watching Evil Dead in a theatre opening week, and after about 10 minutes it was apparent there had been NOTHING like this, ever. The film was strikingly original, and set a whole new bar for horror films. This doesn't happen very oftem. Evil Dead holds a unique position in horror film history, along with other innovative films like Psycho, Night of the Living Dead, The Exorcist, etc.

No remake, no matter how well crafted will be able to touch it.

I agree - the way the original movie made me feel the first time I saw it, well... that hasn't happened since with any other movie. Whether or not it has that effect on younger people (I'm 35), I don't know... but that's how it is for me.

But I'm choosing to try to see this new remake more as a " new chapter". I won't walk into the theater with the expectation to see something that will outdo or even be as good as the original. What I AM hoping for, though, is another movie that will pull me into that same "universe"... something I can watch when my original "evil dead" disc is overheating ;):D

Maybe I'll be disappointed, I don't know... I was definitely SO against the idea originally, but the more I see and read about it, the more excited I am. I could of course just be another victim of great marketing.

But honestly - I WANT to be excited. I want it to be a possibility that I have just one more "evil dead experience" in store. And I want it to be possible that one day, there WILL be another horror movie that will blow me away, something which I haven't experienced in many many years... not nescesarily because of bad movies, but simply because "I've seen it all".

Sculpt 03-24-2013 09:03 PM

Sorry, not going to read 11 pages of posts. Not sure if this has already been posted... It's written and directed by Fede Alvarez. He made this movie short: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-dadPWhEhVk

Here's a trailer to the remake. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FKFDkpHCQz4

Looks like it has no sense of humor. I don't see anything original about it. Looks closer to Evil Dead 1. Can't see it comparing to 1 or 2.

Kandarian Demon 03-24-2013 10:13 PM

This is the first time I'm actually watching the short film - and I have to say I'm pretty impressed.

Most of the apocalypse movies I've seen were absolutely terrible. But this short movie is actually a bit disturbing.

No offense, but these two sentences are total contradictions of each other. I'm with neverending: Evil Dead 1 was totally original. There was nothing like it at the time, and its been a direct influence on so much ever since.

I, like any reasonable horror fan, am not expecting it to be better than the original (or II). That would be ludicrous. But that doesn't mean I can't expect it to be good, or enjoy watching it regardless.

I'm counting down the days, nay, the hours until April 5. The desktops of both my computer monitors at work are Evil Dead 2013 posters. I've hosted weekly movie nights all month to re-watch the original trilogy with my friends. I'm freaking out I'm so excited.

metternich1815 03-25-2013 06:21 PM

I too, am extremely excited about this film. You cannot go into a remake expecting it to be better than another because it won't be. A similiar thing occurs when people read a book (such as The Shining) and watch the movie expecting it to be the same as the book. Generally, I would disagree with doing that, the director should put his own creative spin on the material. The best remakes (or adaptions from books) are the ones that go and do something different with the material. This does not always work or is not executed properly as in several of the slasher remakes they have made. Ultimately, I am very excited about seeing this movie in April. Unfortunately, I will not be able to see it on opening day because I want to see it with my nephew, who also really enjoys horror movies (we have seen the original movie many times and when he was younger it actually scared him).

Anthropophagus 03-26-2013 03:18 AM

Going to be a hard one to critique this movie i feel.

We all love the original and will always live in our hearts but i like the idea of a straight non comedic approach to the new version.personally i don`t care for comedy in horror so this could be a good move.

Giganticface 03-26-2013 09:47 AM

Here's my setup at work. The poster in the background is Game of Thrones ("The night is dark and full of terrors").

Haha, that's like seeing my own screen at the moment :D

Rawhead Rex 04-04-2013 12:55 PM

This remake will be very, very good, I feel...
Like, on par with Hills Have Eyes remake.
Just my opinion, but I thought they did a great fuckin job making the film harder, scarier, and bloodier.
This formula will be done with Evil Dead and it will fuckin rock.
The one scene I've seen with the electric knife...if it's really part of the movie...
Looks vicious.
I will see it this weekend!

Giganticface 04-04-2013 04:07 PM

Already got my ticket. :D

metternich1815 04-04-2013 04:10 PM

I'll be seeing it on April 26th. I am actually going to see the re-release of Jurassic Park this weekend.

mike3881 04-18-2013 12:41 AM

Spoiler spoiler spoiler spoiler spoiler spoiler Spoiler spoiler Recently saw the Evil Dead remake. It was alright I guess. Would of been good if it wasn't for the idiot who opened the book. Funny it was he who was afraid of it. Other then that the movie was good.
