5-2 Unforgiven fight, but I'll throw in a vote to the Harryhausen flick to make it 5-3. Unforgiven wins either way, next one momentarily

Round 1: Match 9
Hai vs. Ricky Movie: Riki-Oh http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DaC9WfQ-Fzg While the head crushing may be the most iconic image from the movie, this is the fight everybody remembers. Ricky tying his tendon back together with his teeth, Hai choking Ricky with his own guts, it's all so bloody and violent and over the top. Hell, they're fighting beneath a crucified guy. One of the better kung fu movies in its over-the-top-ness VS The Saints vs. Il Duce Movie: The Boondock Saints http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ff5DlpZiMZ0 The only real gunfight in the movie. The rest are just massacres. Yes, it uses some of the same clichés the brothers themselves mock earlier in the movie, yes, Dafoe's prancing about and firing the gun in the air is silly if you really think about it, but who cares? The first time you see Il Duce with his gun vest and the cigar and sun glasses, it's way awesome. |
I like The Boondock Saints as much as anybody but it's gotta be Hai vs. Ricky here. Eye popping, tendon tieing goodness.

Round 1: Match 10
Neo vs. Morpheus Movie: The Matrix http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EmEPXXJ4sKw What? Not one of the Neo vs. Smith fights? Nope. I found this fight to be much more impressive. It didn't have an overabundance of glaringly obvious CGI, it was well choreographed, had a good story to it with Neo trying to learn how the Matrix works still, and good attention to detail. When Morpheus' foot goes through the floor at the 1:54 mark, notice the floor fixes its self. I didn't catch that until I watched the video to put it in the tournament. VS Preston vs. the Tetragrammaton Movie: Equilibrium http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=erFz8jBzkhQ Technically severall smaller sequences put together, but I always considered it one long fight scene. Preston getting so pissed off he reverts back to emotionless killing machine was a damn good idea by the writers, as was the fakeout with one of the more anticipated fights, which is actually more realistic (in the sense that anything in this movie could be) the way it turns out here. And the gun-kata fight between Preston and Father is something I've never seen in movies before. |

Equilibrium gets my vote. Love that movie.

Equilibrium was a better movie then Matrix IMHO. I did not enjoy Matrix and Chrisian Bale is and will be the next big actor.

Round 1: Match 11
Azumi vs. A village Movie: Azumi http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XdklA35ji6M If you hate unrealistic fights, just skip over this and vote for...ok, I guess if you hate unrealistic fights just wait until the next match. This fight is like the Bride vs. the Crazy 88 on a much larger scale, with Azumi fighting a whole village worth of thievs and killers. There's at least some attempts at plausibility; instead of her just swordfighting all of them to death there's a cannon she uses at the very beginning (not seen in this clip), she drops the watchtower on them, lets different factions of the village fight each other, the effeminate villain starts killing them, too, but it's still her vs. like a hundred or so guys. It's well directed by Kitamura, and the village set looks great. The only gripe I have is about the clip its self since I couldn't find one with the fight with her and the main villain attached. VS Eric Draven vs. a bunch of criminals Movie: The Crow http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mev1OrDXdKk This is the scene that makes me like Draven. The pawn shop scene was cool, ditto with the flaming bird thing, but this part was tits. Top Dollar, stupid name aside, is a good villain, his group of merry fodder are effective enough, and Brandon Lee just bukkakes this scene with charisma. Why he never became a huge star after this movie, I'll never know. |
Eric Draven hands down.
|
Ha ha ha Azumi....hands up.
|
Eric Draven
Love the movie; its just so sad such a promising young actor was killed filming it. RIP Brandon. |

Round 1: Match 12
LT vs. Hallum Movie: The Hunted http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GrpbdqnxSM0 The specific fight is the end one, it starts five minutes into the clip. Sorry, but I couldn't find an isolated clip of it. This fight is great for the same reason that the swordfight from Rob Roy was great; realism. There's no flying around, it's not flashy. There's a real sense of gravity and of the world in this fight. They get muddy and gringy and tired. And the moments of improvisation is great. A guy gets cut on the arm, so he pools the blood in his hand and throws it in the other guy's eyes. That, dropping the knife into the other hand, and several other little things make this fight great, and it especially stood out when it was released when the Crouching Tiger fad was in full swing. VS Jack Butler vs. Eugine Movie: Crossroads http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=idb2dUtTpuU "DAMNIT, Sam The Egg, this isn't a fight scene! That's just guitar playing! What the HELL are you trying to pull?" I know, I know, it's not a 'fight scene' in the strictest sense, but there's a very simple explanation for everything: It's my tournament. Call it a bending of the rules if you want, but I love a good guitar duel, and this is a damn good one. Although considering Jack Butler is played by Steve Vai, best guitar player around, and he does a bunch of Maccio's stuff as well, it damn well better be good. You've gotta see the movie to get some of the stuff, but I'll paraphrase: Eugine is a classically trained guitar player, wants to learn blues, teams up with Old Black Blues Man, OBBM had sold his soul to the devil, this is the guitar duel to get it back. Butler is the Devil's representative. Got it? Good. |
Crossroads.Gotta love a good guitar duel.

The Hunted.

LT vs. Hallum
Movie: The Hunted |
The Hunted
The movie might have its problems, but that is a great fight scene. |
Crossroads. Guitar duels and dance offs are fighting as they are outward expressions of conflict used to resolve differences. Although things shouldn't go as far as to have "Andre Gregory vs. Wallace Shawn"as one of the entries.
