They dye the shells red? ha, I've never, ever seen that done here...
I personally pick up roasted pistachios here and there, but much prefer the roasted macadamia (not sure if theyre grown abroad, people really ought to try them) and wallnuts for salads, every week at a local organic market.
So, the beernuts you people are referring to in general, are not the same thing I was talking about either?
You can make a nice "snack" if you like sweet things, by putting peanuts/cashews....etc, whatever nuts you like into a frypan, at low heat.
Throw in a some sugar and a very small amount salt until the mixture melts/coats (without browning) add equal parts butter/honey, but use pretty sparingly, just enought to coat, not to drip from, and "simmer" for about 2-3 minutes just until things start to darken slightly.
Place 'em on some nonstick cooking paper, grind some pepper over the top, and refrigerate.
This, I like.
