In all honesty I've only watched the first 3 volume of Boogiepop so I'll get back to you. As for Initial D, the character designs improved through the seasons but I do agree with you.

Unfortunatley Im a sucker for cars, drifint and classic Toyotas. I'm so ashamed.:o

Recently a friend persuaded me to start watching Monster. I usually shy away from fansubs, but as there's little to no chance of this one getting licensed, I figured that would be my only chance of seeing it. I'm certainly glad that I did though. This is really one of (if not the) best anime I've seen. Wonderful characters, brilliant soundtrack, and one of the most frightening villains I've ever encountered in anime. Really good stuff. If you don't mind a relatively slow anime with very little action, but lots and lots of plot and character development, I highly recommend checking this one out.

Saw it, didn't like it. That's one film in which thirty minutes or so could have easily been left on the cutting room floor with no harm done to the overall picture. I know people's expectations were super high, seeing as that was Otomo's first feature since Akira, but Steamboy was just dull.

i cant even describe my dissapointment ..

i know it was well animated .. but it just had the same thing over and over again.
the characters were all unlikeable and without depth too.

it goes hand in hand with the last batch of starwars films .. all show and no soul.

looking at reviews i kept seeing references to the 'steam punk' genre of film ... (jules verne type stuff)

is there so much of this stuff and is it so important that it needs a genre label pinned on it ?

Sort of a shallow caricature of a real movie.
