Its a good thing i never decided to go into teaching. when she calls me "teacher" and asks if she was a bad girl, i lose it.

It sjust about as basd as when she asked what i would do if she were cloned and she and her cloned tag teamed me. i damnnear went off the road. And i wasnt the one driving.

resuming topic....

this isnt a knock on those that do analyze all the movies they watch, but why should those of us that are tired of analyzing everything in day to day life and want to just slip into a movie not caring why or how it was made and just watching it, be classified as fucktards or lowest common denominator?

Some of us just watch the movie for entertainment aspects only, while I do read online reviews for almost all the movies I see, Ive found more times than not, that those that are getting the big bucks to tell me why I should or should not see a movie 9 times out of 10 lack the skills to write a column better than some of the shit house graffiti Ive read on jobsites.

I feel if the movie is based on facts then yes it should be scrutinized to ensure the integrity of what happened being conveyed in the film. But other than that, who cares how they kill the guy as long as the bastard dies? *granted creativity counts {SAW}* As someone said earlier the big money movie machines are the ones calling the shots, would we rather they just up and said one day "Hmmm it appears our movies lack depth or insight, we need to stop making movies period", would make for an awfully boring evening I think.

With regard to horror, honestly when was the last time you were actually scared by a horror movie? 10? 13 tops? Unless we have the funds to do something about it, all we are doing is beating the proverbial dead horse. Big money movie machines dont give a shit about us, look at the theaters when you go, most of the time they are a glorified day care center full of prepubescent trolls crowding the walkways and entrances, slowing up the lines at the concessions, and usually the same little bastards shooting text messages back and forth and making those annoying tones in the theater while others are trying to get some sort of enjoyment out of their 12-15 dollar raping they took at the ticket stand.

i wouldnt say i analyze the movies i watch ... until after the fact when i'm explaining why i did or didnt like it.
even then it's not that deep an analysis. (the story was good - the acting was good ..etc)

i wouldnt sit there in the theatre breaking it down instead of watching it.

the comments i made were pointedly aimed at the people who criticize a movie because they couldnt understand it ...
thats pretty clear. 'i didnt like the movie - it was stupid - because i didnt understand it'. .. that is my precise issue..

would you criticize any piece of art based on your lack of understanding ? i hope not ...

a smart person would either admit that they aren't prepared intellectually and attempt to learn more about it - or not bother - but certainly not place the blame on the work.

i've heard this pathetic critique applied to more than just film ...
it's like telling people that you're stupid - and damned proud of it.

i understand that there are a lot of films that are enjoyable brain candy - but even then i prefer a level of competancy - otherwise its still going to be impossible for me to enjoy - i cant get past a bad performance.

not at all .. because they are calling the shots based on public demand. and that's practically based on a scientific formula.
They are not in the position to take risks.

I've said in about 20 threads now that it is not the fault of 'hollywood' that bad - or mundane films get made - its because of the people who want to see them .. and that itself was a response only to those who blame Hollywood for everything.
its supply and demand - the oldest law of business.

there is no solution .. this is the way its always going to be - and its why i appreciate the odd 'excellent' film here or there that breaks the mold so much more.

back to analyzing a movie ... i have seen a ton of them and i will say that without scrutinizing a film while watching it (i prefer to lose myself in it) some things will jump out - like a particular perfect marriage of music and scene - or a thrilling moment in a performance .. or a spectacular shot (especially the long continuous ones) ...
they get noticed ... but i'm not looking for them .. excellence stands out on its own ..

My point in starting the whole thging was that with some of these things, if you think about them, they just dont make any sense. Sometimes its not really a big deal (sure darkness falls sucked, but it was going to whether she was flammable or not)

But in the case of Signs... I mean really.... Would china invade a country with a sea of battery acid, and every home and building had pipes full of it? I dont think so. That was piss poor writing on his part, and he just expected no one would noptice or care. THAT is disrespect for the audience.

some things are just stupid .. i dont care if its in a movie, or a book or conversation.

if a friend said something glaringly stupid you'd probably tell him so.
imagine if you had to pay $10 for that conversation ..

i do believe that dumb shit writing is an insult as well ... but if the audience doesnt care .. oh well.

unfortunately - like most things - you dont know a movie is bad until you already paid for it ... and there are no refunds on your 90 minutes spent.
