virus five 04-03-2005 10:16 PM

I think most people get viruses from downloading useless things that they don't need.

Programs, files from untrustworthy sources.

I, myself, used to come across this webpage every now and then that was linked from another page...every time I hit it, my virus scan would pop up and tell me the name of the nasty virus it just blocked from eating my hard drive.

Also, don't download email files from unknown sources. Some people are on a hundred mailing lists and can't keep track of all the emails they get.

-NEVER enter your email address on a porn site, or any other site that will sell your address to spammers.
-Try a good email server that has good spam guards. Gmail (Google's mail server) has been working great for me so far. If anyone wants to join, I have around 50 invites.

I also use the free version of AVG antivirus and i think itīs pretty damn good.

And of course iīve got Ad-aware.

mine's clean.... Hardware NAT Firewall > Software Firewall (and that don't include the shite MS firewall ;) ) > More Security > Corporate Antivirus & Spyware Software > and Common Sence.

I would recommend people get and run an updated version of SpywareBlaster. It prevents the crap from getting through Internet Explorer, Mozilla and Firefox, and from being installed in the first place, don't have to worry about removing the stuff then.

Okay...I checked out AVG and I was unable to locate ANY free program...I did find the free 30-day trial, which I downloaded and the second that the download was complete I began receiving messages that said the AVG version that I had just downloaded was out of date...Well...I ran it anyway and I have to say that it's the SLOWEST program that I have ever tried, and it's setup is a LOT like Avast (which I absolutely hate).....So, I went back to Panda which DOES have an absolutely free online scanner...and I just found out that it now includes the spyware protection for free, too....So...I guess I'm gonna mess with Panda for a while...Until something better comes along...

Thanks for all of the information guys :)

Hmm...I dunno...Maybe...

Anyway...You guys should really try this at least one time...Especially if you have little or no virus or spyware protection...You may be really surprised with what you come up with...

Just click on this:
http://www.pandasoftware.com/product..._principal.htm

Then when the page comes up...Click on 'Scan Your PC' it's in about the middle of the page...After it downloads it will ask what part you want scanned...Hit 'All computer"...and watch its progress...It goes faster than any other that I have tried so far...And like I said...You really may be surprised when you find out what's in your computer....It's absolutely free......Let me know what you find out...

OH...BTW...It's not JUST a scanner...It also kills anything it finds...
