the strenght in The Thing is the excellent casting, well used crazy special creature effects, and a fantastic film score..

Can you believe i still havent seen thisone? I have seen the original, and it's like watching paint dry.

it should be your next purchase (dont bother to rent it - just buy it)

Ive wanted to see it. i love the "proteus" monster concept. its gotta be better than phantoms...

plus, ANYTHING has to bebetter than the man-plant with thorns on his knuckles.. it was even bad for the time....

sad that it was just mis-timed. it came out only a few months after ET and the general mood of the country was not receptive to a nihilistic splatter fest. carpenter says this film basically ended his major studio career. . . sad
