do yourself a favor and see Manhunter, the Red Dragon adaptation made before all of the others by Michael Mann ..
Far superior to anything since
Ya except it didnt follow the book at ALL!!! And that Ana-goda-divida shotgun shootout at the end? WTF??  Not to mention Hannibal's actor was a joke....

Reddragon was almost perfectly the book....and harvey clitel and edward did a fantastic job....along with the blind girl (equilibrium chick, i forget her name)

And if Harris rights for the movies he must not have paid attention to the end of Hannibal the book, as its no where to BE SEEN in the fucking movie.....thats what ruined hannibal for me, dispite Gary Oldman (who i love) and Hopkin's interaction....

Not the best movies ever, certainly no Seven, but they dont get their due respect....and neither do the books.....all 3 of which i love......black sunday kicked ass too tho, but in a independant way....

not being a big fan of Harris's writing i really didnt see a problem with the deviation .. I read Red Dragon when it came out ..I thought it was ok but i enjiyed Manhunter more.
I enjoyed the style .. especially the music and Brian Cox who played Lector as he was probably directed .. to be intelligent - but not some kind of super human.
I have no problem suspending my disbelief in a horror film but the Hannibal character became a bloated character in my opinion..
Superhuman strength, superhuman speed, superhuman olfactory glands, super human intelligence, cultured, etc etc .. about as subtle as Dustin Hoffman's Rainman character.

Extreme Hollywood overextravegance.... and Harris plays right into that.

Manhunter was made with style ... Red Dragon was empty to me .. not one thing in it was memorable ...
I saw Manhunter for the 1st time almost 20 years ago and it left a real impression

Maybe if you cant seperate book and film it will be more difficult for you but i wasnt hampered with that at all.

or maybe its just the old hat .. you love the one you saw first ...
