A reclusive town, a student studying the history of witchcraft and lots of graveyard atmosphere and fog....(lots of fog). Great stuff.

That IS a great film with a lot of atmoshere...reminds me a lot of PSYCHO (the same year) in spots.

ISLAND OF LOST SOULS (1932). Classic flick covering all kinds of pleasant subjects like vivisection, torture, bestiality, rape, highly suspect experiments etc etc with all sorts of fiendish faces throughout. No way it could have been made a couple of years later. While I love the Universals, Paramount really had some balls with their early 30's films. *****

Dracula has risen from the grave (1968)

I remember seeing an article about this film in my first FAMOUS MONSTERS OF FILMLAND (#59 around Sept/Oct 1969- I was 7) and those photos of Chris Lee with the stake through his heart:scared to death:!! Didn't see it proper until I was almost 30 and it seemed so quaint, compared to some of the gruesome stuff I was watching in the 80's.
Got in BRIDE OF FRANKENSTEIN. still *****

THE UNEARTHLY (1957). Don't know if I'd call this a classic, but it sure is fun with John Carradine playing a mad scientist and carving enough ham for Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Years and maybe even Easter! JC carries it on his thin shoulders and gets in some great lines as well. ***1/2

MAN MADE MONSTER (1940). Short and sweet Universal flick that I think was Lon Chaney Jr;s first big role. Lionel Atwill plays yet another mad doctor that is crazier than a shithouse rat and is a joy to watch, especially his pleading with Samuel S. Hinds not to turn him in before using other methods to his benefit. ***

'It Conquered The World' (1956)
-Peter Graves, Lee Van Cleef

Plot: A misguided scientist leads an alien to earth in hopes of saving mankind from itself, but instead it's the beginning of an invasion.

Phantoms Review: One of the great Drive-In monster movies of the'50's. This one has it all, square jawed American hero, mislead scientist, pretty girls, bumbling military and of course, a giant carrot from outer space. A Roger Corman classic.

THE GORGON 1964

Peter Cushing/Christopher Lee

Creepy yet charming tale based on Greek mythology. Lovely spooky atmosphere, quite enjoyable.
