Pieces (not exactly a giallo... it's from Spain, but it's deleriously wacky!)

Pieces is awesome and is gialloish enough to appeal to giallo fans, in spite of the argument that it can't be a giallo because it's not Italian or set in Italy.

Hi thanks for your help when i make a giallo rental list , ill post it here and see what you guys think.

Maybe i need to give bava another chance now i am more mature. I just found a bay of blood a little too slow maybe i wasnt in the mood

Elvis_Christ 04-25-2010 03:22 AM

Really? I thought Bay of Blood was amazing when I first watched it.

nicklord1 04-25-2010 03:53 AM

MAybe i need to give it another watch i am not sure

Bay of Blood can be kind of a difficult movie. For one thing, it has one hell of a warped sense of causality and plot. You're basically looking at a movie that shrugs its shoulders ar you and says "shit happens" kind of like Gus Van Sant's Elephant but actually exalting in the gore. I can see how for some people it would be slow, nihilisitc and hard to wrap one's head around in spite of the brilliance of its storytelling methods and the harshness of it all.

Ditto & to some extent I liked Bay of Blood more than Blood & Black Lace. But both the films are fantastic showcases of murders that starts with one and ends with one and always kept the suspense pretty tightly.

I haven't seen Bava's Hatchet for the Honeymoon, Lamberto's Blade in the Dark & Fulci's Duckling yet, hope to see them soon I guess. And haven't seen some of the other Giallo films that V pointed out nicely in bold.

But lately I have seen all the Martino films (or should I say Fabulous Fenech Giallos;)) and to me Your Vice Is a Locked Room and Only I Have the Key is the best from them.

Very much interested to see The Case of the Bloody Iris...another "Fabulous Fenech Giallo" as I know. But before that The House with Laughing Windows & Seven Blood-Stained Orchids are in my ques next.

Anyway, here's a list of Top 25 GIALLOS that I made & ranked according to my preferences...from 'Best' to 'wort a watch':

1. Bay of Blood
2. Blood and Black Lace
3. Opera
4. Your Vice Is a Locked Room and Only I Have the Key
5. The House That Screamed
6. Tenebre
7. Deep Red
8. What Have They Done To Your Daughters?
9. The Bird with the Crystal Plumage
10. The Girl Who knew too much
11. Kill Baby...Kill!
12. What Have They Done To Solange?
13. Lizard in a Woman's Skin
14. Pieces
15. The Strange Vice of Mrs Wardh
16. The Black Belly of the Tarantula
17. The Psychic
18. All the Colors of the Dark
19. The Stendhal Syndrome
20. 5 Dolls for an August Moon
21. Eyes of Laura Mars
22. Strip Nude for your Killer
23. Case of the Scorpion's Tail
24. Torso
25. The New York Ripper

Some of the films I really need to see again...don't know the reason but can't recall many of the scenes or the storyline properly!:o

AMICUS HORROR 04-26-2010 05:32 AM

I liked "My Dear Killer" aka Mio Caro Assassino directed by Tonino Valerii, no matter how many times I watch this movie I can never remember who the killer is. Another good movie is Alice sweet Alice aka Communion directed by Alfred Sole

Alice Sweet Alice is a great movie, but not gaillo.

Roderick Usher 04-26-2010 03:54 PM

of course there are the American wanna-be gialli like
DRESSED TO KILL and the Carpenter scripted EYES OF LAURA MARS

Elvis_Christ 04-26-2010 07:22 PM

Dressed To Kill is so solid. It'd be great if De Palma started doing flicks like that again.
