Scream did breathe life back into the genre.

Scream.....I think it was both good and bad for the horror genre, but the first two are better films than Bordello of Blood or Demon Knight, in my opinion.

The Scream trilogy almost pulls off a sensational comeback, but gets pipped to the post...losing 5-6 to the Tales From The Crypt trilogy by a whisker!!
