Werewolf of London. Great flick, I think I enjoyed it better than The Wolf Man, even though I preferred Chaney's monster to Hull's.

tommywikkid 01-31-2008 07:53 PM

Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde, the original...I couldnt help but laugh when the kid gets knocked down in the middle of the road...

I too like The Werewolf Of London very much.

Chaney is better than Hull as far as the monster goes but the film and story are great. It is also very atmospheric!

Thumbs up on this one!

Die! Die! My Darling~ ~ great, GREAT title...;) the movie is....less than great, in a lot of ways but works. And it works because of Tallulah Bankhead's unforgettable turn as Mrs. Trefoile. Wow what a nut....;)

The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari (1919)

I thought to myself the other day cos i love Horror films i wanna educate myself and start from the very begining i'm lovin it at the mo i've still got The Golem and Nosferatu to watch

knife_fight 02-07-2008 06:15 AM

those are all three good ones. I would watch Faust in there somewhere too. same guy that did Nosferatu, but with a bigger budget for badass special effects.

the last classic I watched was "Monsters Crash the Pajama Party."

Cinestro 02-09-2008 01:48 PM

Faust is amazing and I love both the Director (Murnau) and the actors involved, but what really makes this movie so great is the FX for its time! Beautiful!

Just watched Night Must Fall in both its 1937 and 1964 versions. Both are excellent!

The_Raven 02-18-2008 06:26 AM

Pit and the Pendulum. Corman's excellent adaptation with Price stealing the entire show.

I saw Carnival Of Souls (original version) last night. Clearly made on a very low-budget and generally the acting wasn't too great, yet it's fairly effective and unsettlingly creepy in a few places. I believe it strongly influenced some later, rather more well known films, too.

...and this film is STILL shocking, imo. I can see why it was so reviled when it came out. It was SO ahead of its time.

urgeok2 03-27-2008 02:15 PM

the closest thing to a classic horror i've watched in ages was Abbot and Costello Meet the Mummy

"It Came From Beneth The Sea" (1955)
-Kenneth Tobey

After an encounter at sea with an unknown underwater creature, a naval commander works with two scientists to identify it. The creature they are dealing with is a giant, radioactive octopus that has left its normal feeding grounds in search of new sources of replenishment. As the creature attacks San Francisco, the Navy tries to trap it at the Golden Gate Bridge but it manages to enter the Bar area leading to a final confrontation with a submarine.

One of the fun "Giant Radioactive Monsters On The Loose" movies from the 1950's. Great stop motion FX by Ray Harryhausen. Not quite a classic, but a hell of a lot of fun to watch.

phantomstranger 03-30-2008 12:29 PM

"Fiend Without A Face" (1958)
-Marshall Thompson

An American military base in Canada is developing a missile control system based on nuclear energy and is facing problem with the people from the nearby town. When four locals, including the Mayor, are killed, Major Jeff Cummings (Marshall Thompson) is in charge of the investigation. When the coroner examines the one of the corpse, he finds that the brain and spinal chord was sucked out and Major Cummings defines the creature as a mental vampire. He looks for Prof. R. E. Walgate (Kynaston Reeves), a retired scientist that lives in town, and he discloses the scary secret.

another fun 1950's radioactive monster movie. Lots of fun. good stop motion FX.
I really enjoy this movie.

Yes, I agree, that aspect of it is very disappointing. But, it's still one of my favorites.
