Marianne Season 1 (and hopefully the one and only) 8/10

If this was one long ass horror movie it would be my favorite of the year.

I was quite surprised to discover that neither writers or director had ever made a horror movie before, because when it comes to atmosphere and creepy scenes they totally nailed it. Lots of creativity and even tho parts seemed to be inspired from other horror movies, most if the scenes felt fresh and effective. Nice long creepy scares.
The directing was really amazing throughout. Editing, cinematography, sfx, music was worthy of a big budget horror movie. Only fault in my book was the story, that started out very strong, but became weaker after episode 3 and sadly the last two episodes were the worst, with all the creepiness from the former episodes gone and an ending that I don’t really need to see a follow-up to.

But I highly recommend horror fans to give it a watch.

Been watching Creepshow on Shudder and AHS :1984.

On the fourth set of stories and the Scarecrow episode is my favorite.

On the other hand not really thrilled with AHS. To me it feels like a mess. Hodge podge of storylines that change every episode. I know AHS is known for' it's not what it seems' but this feels sloppy but will finish it to the end.

Castle Rock, Season 2 the first 5 episodes.

If you know the premise of Castle Rock: it's characters and places from the Stephen King Universe. This one has Salem's Lot, Jerusalem's Lot and Marsten House and the story of psychopath Annie Wilkes.

I think I will start with season 2 then.

Scenery and fx reminded me of The Force Awakens, which is definitely the best sequel to the first three movies, imo.

Lacked in story, which was not even 40 minutes long. But what really bothered me was the plain American accents of lots of the characters, including the “aliens” such as fish face.

Sure, I’m gonna watch the next episode but I’m not a fan yet.

Trailer looked like it centers on Boba Fett as a lone, or semi lone, bounty hunter rather than Mandalorian affairs, right? Looks interesting.

LOL! Maybe so. I'm no expert. I thought I read it was Boba, wasn't clear in the trailer. In the Clone Wars cartoon there was Mandalorian national goings on.

So starting Season 7, I realized I never watched Season 6.

I think this my favorite season to date. A lot of self reflection by all and a bunch of political mess.

I love the fact no matter what happens, the family still comes together in the end. Surely one of my all time favorite shows.

The Movies that Made Us: part 1 Dirty Dancing

Pretty good. I was afraid this was going to be one of those 'forcing a cultural agenda down your throat' piece, but it wasn't. It was really mostly 'the making of Dirty Dancing' and a factual note of it's success, but very little about it's impact on culture... which is really good news. Of course the title, 'movies that made us' is odd considering, but I'm glad it's not self aggrandizing cultural punch.

Come on.
You know Dirty Dancing MADE you.

I watched an episode of the Rookie.
I mean...it's no Southland...but there's not too many cop dramas on that I'd watch these days, and it's an enjoyable mix.
It was...it was just really nice to see Nathan Fillion and Alan Tudyk share the screen again, even if only for one episode.

Watched a few of season 2 FINAL SPACE. Funny.

I had considered checking out Rookie. I always wondered what it would be like becoming a cop, and entering a field while older is interesting to. But sounds like you weren't to thrilled with it? If it had some accurate detail to it, it could be pretty good. But if it's mainly fluff from writers without a clue about the reality, I doubt I'd like it. Rec on where to see it?

Dirty Dancing certainly didn't make me. ::big grin:: I think I saw a rental of it. Saw it again recently. Not as good as I remembered, but it's ok.

The Movies that Made Us: Ghostbusters

Another 'the making of', this time Ghostbusters. Well done and interesting. Again plenty of interesting behind the scene's info, origins of the script that Dan Aykroyd wrote (which he regards as the family business -- he and his parents were very into parapsychology research, and I knew it when I saw the film), and then re-wrote with Harold Ramis.

I'll certainly check out the other two films in the series. Always like 'making of the film' docs.

I’m guessing you’re talking about The Witcher since Mandalorian is only half an hour long.

Yea, except for the beginning the first episode wasn’t the best and I’m sure it helps a lot to be a big fan of the books/games. But it still bothers me that the Witcher, especially in the first episodes, only seem like a side character in the bigger story. Just walking around in the forrest doing small errands for the nearby villages. ::roll eyes::

Overall the best part of both shows are the visuals, with Mandalorian being the most impressive but with the weakest story and too many fillers.

Yep, I'm talking about the Witcher. I see it was 1h1m long. And I'm not familiar with the books/games.

Just as a comparison, Game of Thrones first ep grabbed my attention right away and didn't seem contrived to me. I was unfamiliar with GOT. Maybe tough comparison, but same concept. I just don't think Witcher rooted itself well enough.

The opening scene of the fight with monster... dropping the sword, can't reach it, then reaches it... very, very contrived, and much too much time to do it. Still, the ending fight with the woman and her band is much more interesting and dynamic. Just not well rooted story in 1st ep. I'll probably watch the 2nd ep with the recommendations, but if as rough, I don't know. ::big grin::

Why not?

I saw a few episodes of this show people have been banging on about since season 2 just dropped. Called "You". Which is...basically about something of a stalker. Interesting how things are told in his perspective.
It's watchable enough.
I don't really get the rampant fandom I've been seeing, to me, while I'll continue watching it, and I find it interesting, it's just "ok".
Main guy lookin' like Henry Cavil and Anton Yelchin facefucked.

I'd say...I dunno...6/10? Maybe 6.5?
It's kind of funny.

That's too bad.

The 2nd ep of Witcher was much better. Where the hunch-back girl gets training. Actress did a great job. Very GOT-like. The Witcher-side of the story was not that good... a bit like a bad Supernatural ep.

I just think the story was really bad. Especially episode 3, which was just ridiculous and a complete turn off.

1. episode was by far the best.
Appreciated the Hammer style, the effects and the acting was fine.

The Witcher is just not a very interesting character in the first half of the season because he’s so irrelevant to the main Game of Thrones story.
