In the middle of episode 5 of Van Helsing. I thought it had potential and so far its getting better with each episode. If you did not get into it via the first two episodes I'd suggest giving the next 2 a try.

Walking Dead as well.
I liked the episode.
It was a far cry from last weeks, but to be honest it was almost like a welcome tension break. It was a good introduction to how a big part of the storyline will play out for the future of the series.
I always liked "The King" in the comics, and they've handled him quite well.
Glad we didn't get another crap episode after a good one.

I haven't read the comics. But, I already love Ezekiel. And, I loved the scene with him and Carol in the garden. I thought it gave great insight into what he's all about.

cheebacheeba 10-31-2016 04:28 PM

Yes, in the comic there was a similar deal...it was a relief to find that he was a "real" guy. Completely unpretentious. The show pretty much nailed him.

Westworld - Episodes 1 thru 5 -

I decided to check out this show early as I saw a few images that looked pretty cool. One of which reminded me of the creation sequence from the old Ghost in the Shell animated movie. It's a good show and very expensive looking. So far the soundtrack is good too. But I was a bit let down because of the hype. It's very good but not one of the best pilot episodes ever as some have called it. In fact, I was only surprised by one moment early in the first episode. Other than that, it's stuff that been seen before in other sci-fi movies and tv shows. Stuff like The Thirteenth Floor, Blade Runner, episodes of Star Trek The Next Generation and The Twilight Zone, and other dark sci-fi shows. I still want to see the movie though and I do think they will drop another twist late in the season. But this is more questioning sci-fi mixed with a real life Grand Theft Auto world than horror. I haven't played that Western open world game but I want to one day. In fact, I would love to go to Westworld myself. I probably wouldn't leave as one of the main characters is the actress who played the vampire queen in True Blood.

Seems to be an odd amount of Host on Host violence with no Guests around, which doesn't seem cost effective. It's like the writers can't decide whether the Hosts are programmed to run a scenario or self-directed enough to create the scenario, and it keeps switching back and forth.

I guess you haven't seen episode 5 yet as the nudity is back with a vengeance!

I recently watched the first two episodes of Black Mirror, I have to say I had really mixed feelings about it. What's your take on the show? Is it supposed to be like dark satire?

I guess it's about (futuristic) technology and what it can do to people and society. Sometimes it can be funny, sometimes dramatic, sometimes both.
I'd keep watching. It's something different every time so there might be an episode you like.

Watching a fair bit of tv at the minute:

The Walking Dead
Black Mirror: 3 episodes of season 3 so far, Nosedive has to be one of the most dystopian futures I've seen (especially as its potentially how society could go).
Mr Robot: second season took a while to get going but still quality viewing.
The Expanse: only 3 episodes into season 1 but I'm enjoying it so far. Took me ages to recognise the actor from The Mist was in it.
Z Nation: I gave it 4 episodes, its shit. Not going to waste any more time on this one.

I've been watching my go-to background noise show.
Funny how movies just...I technically HAVE the time, but don't FIND the time to watch them a lot. I'm kind of trying to aim to fix this.

Sorry, the show was - "The Goldbergs". Kind of like "wonder years" and "modern family/the middle" had an 80's baby...and maybe it's just that I was an 80's/90's kid, but I find it more watchable than the latter two there.

Currently about to finish the second season of Vikings.

Great show. Tense, violent and surprisingly educational. Like Game Of Thrones but without the fantasy element!

Season 2 ends 4 december. I'm gonna watch the first season again a couple of days earlier to freshen up my memory. And the binge on into season 2.
Gonna be sweeeeeet!

Watched the first 20 minutes of last week's Saturday Night Live. I never watch it, but Chapelle hosted. He's amazing so far. The opening of the show with the version of Cohen's "Hallelujah" was awful. Unemotional. Dull. And its the song by Cohen that everyone covers so there's that poor choice too. Normally I don't care about this sort of thing, but Cohen is one of the best song writers/lyricists ever and very important to me so his death actually made me feel sad.

And I rambled.

TheBossInTheWall 11-14-2016 04:54 PM

Also watching The Exorcist. Not something I'd watch again, but I'm enjoying it. The pacing of the show is very good. I'm tired of the defrocked priest being part of plots though, but the guy playing him is fantastic.
