I saw a trailer for this show and watched the early release 1st episode. We had a dream topic here somewhere and this sort of thing interests me. It's probably a bit late after a great movie like Inception but still the themes are a good one. The first episode was pretty good overall. But there was only a hint of the demon like creatures that were shown in the trailer. I can't wait till the show really gets started in a few weeks.

Is it good now? I mean like the first bunch of original seasons?

I think so. But, people usually disagree with me. LOL I'm a bit leery of this season coming up, though. I won't tell you why if you haven't seen the season finale of last season. It would be a MAJOR spoiler.

This is another male swap out show like with Wynonna Earp. I watched the first two episodes and unlike with Wynonna Earp this just isn't as cool as that show. The modern setting probably works against it as when I think Van Helsing I think classic horror settings. Wynonna Earp is modern but still set in a town that has that Old West feel. Maybe I'm comparing the two too much. But it just seems like the people in charge took another old property, popular creatures (vampires), change hero to a girl, and said let's make the show. Without thinking if it would be good or not. Because this seems very dull and generic from what I saw.

I didn't dislike it. I thought it a mediocre show to watch while I'm eating. Like Dark Matter or iZombie. I think it has potential though. I liked Wynonna Earp the same way, except Wynonna's younger sister makes me swoon a little. :)

Decided to be bold and obsessive, so started watching the entire DARK SHADOWS collection (strictly when Barnabas shows up). While it's pretty cheesy, still has a lot of atmosphere and music still amazing. My only quibble is someone from the Production office issued a mandate that the line "What Do You Mean?" be used at least once in every episode.
Two Discs down, 102 to Go::shocked::!

Ahhh, my favorite show when I was a kid. I remember running home from school to watch it!

RollinFan 09-28-2016 09:57 AM

YAY, Dark Shadows!

While I'm stuck watching the first episode of Falling Water. I'm pretty sure I've seen the "where's my baby?" scene word for word the same somewhere else. The thing seems to be a mashup of Inception and The Forgotten. I still haven't watched Inception, and I hated The Forgotten. It seems complicated just to be complicated, and I'll bet it ends before any of it gets resolved.

Scream Queens -

It's back to being really good again in the second episode. I think it just needed some of the other crazy characters to show up and for more stuff to happen.

Go ahead and spoil it. Or use the white text. I'm not going to watch unless you think the last season was as good as those first 4 or 5. Then I'll look it up to see what it's all about and what happened during those seasons I missed.

Ballers
Binged season 2. Still pretty good but not as good as the first season.
Dwayne Johnson was great as usual. Seems he keeps improving as an actor.

Longmire
Started season 5. 3 episodes in, good as usual.

Stranger Things (Series 1)(2016)
I.M.D.B.
When a young boy disappears, his mother, a police chief, and his friends must confront terrifying forces in order to get him back.

After all the hype I finally got around to watching it in a week. Comparisons to Spielberg's classics abound - although I generally don't agree. Speilberg, among other things, excels in natural dialogue and friendship among children, whereas I felt Stranger Things failed at doing this, mainly by making Lucas an antagonist right up until the final episodes. The constant conflict between the friends wasn't balanced with jovial comradery. Splicing humour into Lucas' character to balance his aggression would have gone a long way.

On the whole though, I really enjoyed this series. David Harbour stood out, but it was Millie Bobby Brown as Eleven that really shined. The retro 80's synth music stole the show, with the simple but effective intro sequence giving me the feels each time I saw it. Having only 8 episodes was brilliant, resulting in tight pacing and succinct story without getting bogged down in needless filler. I just wished the three friends had been given a bit less conflict between themselves.
Highly Recommended
9/10

I saw the first episode of "Luke Cage", and while I have to say it was about the weakest opening episode of the Marvel Netflix stuff, it was still quite watchable and I'll be continuing to watch.

We've also been watching through an Australian show called "Wentworth" which is supposed to be a remake of an earlier show called "Prisoner" which in some places was also known as "Cell Block H".

So I have never seen the original aside from late night reruns, 5 minutes here or there...but I don't know how the new one rates by comparison.
I will say this though - for me, it's one of the most solid Australian shows I've seen in years. Excellent characters. Quite brutal at times. People you feel terribly sorry for in the worst way, and then other, repugnant people you feel absolutely repulsed by among both the prisoners to the correctional staff.

It's a bit closer to "OZ" that "Orange is the new Black", but if you liked either of those shows, you might want to see if you can find a way to get your hands on this, it walks the line back and forth between them.

Finished Longmire season 5.
It's still ok but not as good as the previous seasons.
Maybe they have new writers or something.

Started Fear The Walking Dead.
So far so good. But seeing how TWD turned out, I'm not getting my hopes up.

scouse mac 10-05-2016 12:58 AM

Westworld - a very promising start

RollinFan 10-05-2016 02:12 AM

Finished The Kettering Incident. It's a lot like Fortitude, or The X-Files. 7/10, mostly for the hanging plot lines and WTF ending.

Westworld Episode One. - Are the cigarette companies doing product placement again? We just watched Jones chain smoke her way through 12 Monkeys, and here we go again, with another woman of about the same age. And because it's HBO, there's way too much nudity for no valid reason. Do you really have to undress a robot to basically interview them? It's good enough to watch a few more episodes, but I'm pretty borderline about it. And the orchestral version of "Paint It Black" just sucked.

Marathoned the Netflix series Luke Cage over the past weekend.
Actually did a video review of it too. Have a look if you're interested.

If you don't wanna watch the video.. I thought it was an entertaining show with a few big problems. I didn't think it was as good as Daredevil or Jessica Jones but still worth watching. Anyone seen it yet?

Next up I'm gonna marathon season 1 of Hannibal. I remember loving it but I never saw season 3, I hope it ended well.

Been watching Luke Cage. So far the story is meh. Jessica Jones' story was much better. However except for Krysten Ritter(Jessica Jones) and David Tenant(Kilgrave) the acting surpasses all others in Daredevil and Jessica Jones. Luke Cage brings some really great actors together. The head bad guy, his cousin, Pop, Luke Cage, the female detective, etc etc. Its very entertaining too. Something I can sit and watch instead of watch while doing something else.

I'd say so since he has a decent amount of involvement in Jessica Jones. I was hoping for her being involved in his series a lot more, but I haven't seen her yet. : /
