I'm in Dublin for a couple of days, I did 9 pints of Guiness last night, then the funds ran out. But I'm cashed up again and will get a few more in before my flight.

Fookin' Hell

Every pint is like eating a meal, how the hell can you stomach so much?

I can only drink one, maybe two, but I dont like the taste that builds up so have to stop.

Haha, no kidding. 9 pints of Guinness...wow.
When I was in Dublin I was lucky enough to have a couple pints of the black stuff in a pub just a mile or so from St. James' Gate.

Disease 06-08-2009 03:02 PM

Yeah, got a couple more in tonight before the flight. I'm feeling pretty bloated, everything I ate in the last two days was some type of sandwich or roll or pizza, so much bread.... That combined with the guinness.

The Guinness tasted so good though I would have had a few more if I had the time.

Had a nice little beer tasting with some friends this evening.

First off, we tried Brooklyn Local 2, a great Belgian-style strong dark ale. Lots of plumb and honey notes coming through, and very smooth.

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3630/...c0a03f7b7b.jpg

After that we tried the Guinness 250th Anniversary Stout.

And were thoroughly disappointed. It kind of tasted like somebody spilled water in regular Guinness.

Oh well.

I tried that recently as well. It kind of grows on you after awhile, but still, I was expecting to be at least a little impressed. To me it tasted like they just mixed regular Guinness with the Extra Stout version.

Had another beer tasting with some friends today.

Unibroue's Trois Pistoles- an excellent dark Belgian ale

http://www.artofdrink.com/img/trois-pistoles.jpg

Samuel Smith's Oatmeal Stout- for a stout, it's fairly light. Overall, very nice.

http://media.rd.com/rd/images/rdc/sl...l-stout-ss.jpg

and Sprecher Black Bavarian- a wonderful, smooth dark lager

Went to a beer tasting in the city today; we sampled a few brews from Rogue out of Oregon:

Mom Hefeweizen
Chipotle Ale
Dead Guy Ale
Double Dead Guy Ale
Imperial India Pale Ale

All of them were great, except the Chipotle Ale.

I picked up their Rogue Chocolate Stout, an Old Rasputin Russian Imperial Stout, and a Sinebrychoff Porter.

Got in to some of this last night:

This is one of my all time favorites!

@Return (and Fortunato)
With the La Fin Du Monde, do you notice a taste difference in the shape of the glass you are drinking it from? I usually drink it in a rounded goblet like glass. Since we are moving and still unpacking, I had in a regular pint glass the other night. Now, i hadn't had it in awhile, but it just didn't taste the same and wasn't as good as I remember.

Yeah, this is true with the Belgian strong ales for sure. The rounded big-bodied glass (like a snifter or oversized wine glass) allows the aroma of the brew to stay rolling around inside the glass. This way, when you take a drink, the aroma is nice and rich, adding to the taste of the beer. With a pint glass, the aroma is able to escape quickly from the wide mouth, killing some of the taste. With most other beer styles, the pint glass will work fine, but the Belgians are so heavy that the glassware really does matter.

Honestly, I'd never had it before so I can't really say.

Fort's answer pretty much sums things up though...good to know!

I hear ya, but I find the hint of lemon pretty refreshing. Ever had Oberon? Best summer beer... period. Not fruity either.

and trust me - you'll never drink anything else

Disease 06-30-2009 10:51 AM

So now that I'm 19 and don't have to bother sneaking around...you can expect to see way more of me in this thread.

Kicked off my birthday evening with one of these - figured I go for some foreign stuff first:

Then moved onto these for the rest of the night:

Zero 07-05-2009 03:45 PM

neverending 07-05-2009 04:43 PM

Zero 07-05-2009 04:45 PM

Very good.

I'm not well versed enough on my beer yet to properly analyze or review it...but it was far tastier than the Labatt Blue (which I also enjoyed).

Few of these last evening...few too many, probably.

I can literally see their brewery from my bedroom window, so I figured it was about time to try some. Not bad at all.

Disease 07-11-2009 11:50 AM

Got a couple of beers I hadn't tried before last night...

http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_-IWR4kiJ4q...0/IMG_2259.jpg

quite a solid ale, nothing outstanding but it goes down very smooth...

The other one I can remember, I ended up pretty pissed.... from the bottles of white wine we drank later. Got a free case of some Californian wine echo Falls, not great, but drank cold enough it's fine.
